SUMMARY/OBJECTIVES

The Director of Commercial Product (nCino) is primarily responsible for having an overall vision for developing a Center of Excellence around nCino and Salesforce for the Commercial Bank and ensuring the strategic goal of delivering a best-in-class digital end-to-end lending platform, that makes life easier for SouthState employees and provides better products and services for our customers, is achieved. This role will establish a future state nCino and Salesforce support structure and governance, positioning SouthState for long-term success. This role is responsible for setting a strategic vision, creating and maintaining product roadmaps, managing issue escalations, creating business cases and tracking financials, continuously assessing customer feedback, staying knowledgeable in industry trends and aligning stakeholders.

The Director of Commercial Product is also responsible for the establishment, refresh and ongoing measurement of Objectives and Key Results to measure progress and demonstrating value-based outcomes towards business goals and strategic priorities. The Director of Commercial Product ensures alignment across multiple product backlogs, and should always be considering how to maximize value, assessing how the product or the delivery process can be improved. The Director contributes to the long-term profitability of the Commercial Bank business line (commercial, credit, loan closing, loan ops) by establishing performance goals and work practices which drive the design and development of high-quality end-to-end nCino product and user experiences. The Director collaborates with other stakeholders in E2E journeys, products, platforms or other product-based businesses, contributes to a positive work environment and ensures that work embodies the Agile principles of transparency, collaboration and engagement.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Employee must have in depth knowledge of the commercial loan process including origination, credit underwriting, and banking products. Bachelor’s degree in Business, MIS, Computer Science, or related field required. Training, management, Salesforce Administrator Certification / nCino Administrator Certification strongly preferred. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Primary Responsibilities:

Strategy & Leadership

  • Support the definition of the overall nCino product strategy and technology roadmap to drive P&L goals for specific Commercial Banking capabilities.
  • Independently resolves highly complex, multi-faceted problems, which are often unstructured and without precedent to meet the business needs of the end users.
  • Strategic partner to leadership team on the management of the portfolio and financials, with deep industry, external / internal, enterprise knowledge, recognizing and anticipating emerging trends and identifying operational efficiencies and opportunities with other business management / enterprise areas
  • Provides coaching, mentorship and guidance to practitioners, business, executives within area of expertise.
  • Manages and oversees the overall discipline and strategy for the respective areas while aligning to the enterprise best practices.
  • Develops KPIs for measuring platform effectiveness and leadership goal setting.
  • Facilitates key strategic discussions and provide thought leadership to executive audience (output may include strategic roadmap and/or deliverables/ frameworks/ short to long term goals etc.)
  • Build relationships with peer banks utilizing nCino in order to gain insight into opportunities for improvement and benchmark the Bank’s utilization. Participate in nCino user groups, when available.
  • Recommends best practices to leadership and product teams based upon interaction with the user community.
  • Acts in a leadership capacity within Commercial Line of Business to include being a resource for Business units’ owners inside and outside of Commercial.

Delivery & Execution

  • Oversees the relationship with the strategic platform vendor.
  • Manage communications and status reporting of ongoing initiatives, including summarizing project risks and options and facilitating prompt decisions when needed.
  • Work with Program Delivery team to formulate costs and funding requests, proposals.
  • Lead teams to focus on business value & impact, client-centric model. Must have holistic data, analytics and end-to-end consideration at all times.
  • Works directly with business stakeholders to understand business needs and communicates them effectively to the scrum team.
  • Ensures product delivery is relevant and of high quality, eliminating the need for workarounds. Identifies capabilities, features, value proposition and potential risks for the product vision, working with stakeholders to produce high quality business solutions.
  • Sets team direction and collaborate with others to execute on common goals.
  • Focus on longer-range planning for functional area (e.g. 12 months or greater).
  • Participate and lead nCino teams through future conversions and configurations planned for the Bank as part of our roadmap.
  • Work closely with IT partners to make sure the appropriate level of support is allocated to the nCino platform. Develop training plans, materials, and documentation for application users, keep materials up to date, and coordinate new user and ongoing training sessions 
  • Ensures operational reporting is in place for all department leaders utilizing platform, and ensuring reporting is producing accurate information.
  • Work with the credit analytics department to develop and maintain custom reports, dashboards, and processes to continuously improve data quality, process integrity and productivity.
  • Monitor user adoption rates and respond as needed.
  • Responsible for budgeting and user license reconciliation for the nCino Platform.
  • Own and lead nCino Operating and Steering Committee Meetings, including determining appropriate attendees, developing meeting agendas, identifying speakers, facilitating conversation and dialogue with members, etc.
  • Attends agile ceremonies (i.e., planning sessions, stand-ups, retrospectives, iteration reviews) and other team meetings in order to provide necessary guidance and verify that the output of the delivery team is consistently delivering business value and aligned with the agreed upon commitments.
  • Act as primary reviewer and approver of finished development work during demos/reviews based on established acceptance criteria. Facilitates problem solving as required, working closely with the delivery team on implementation changes.
  • Coaches team members and creates an environment that lends itself to self-organizing activities. Identifies and manages business activities (training, communication) required to support agile initiatives. Thinks strategically beyond in-scope scrum activities, providing innovative ideas to challenge or extend current product vision.
  • Define, lead, and execute a cohesive transformation strategy designed to limit technological debt and to effectively manage transition from segregated platforms to single platforms adoption, while modernizing technology stacks & automated workflows.
  • Work closely with internal/external leads and partners to ensure execution quality and success.
  • Ability to manage large-scale initiatives and effectively partner with stakeholders across business and technical teams.
  • Continually acquire and enhance knowledge of both the Bank's and the Commercial Bank’s business strategies and policies, risk management practices and methodologies, product offerings, financial markets, financial instruments, regulatory requirements, back-office processes, and rapidly changing technology to be able to provide effective business solutions, services and support to the end user business lines.
  • Work with technology partners on architecture reviews and ensure solutions are aligned (build-once, use-twice +) and escalate on any misalignment.
  • Maintain an understanding of financial services markets, the competitive landscape and banking/credit trends relative to the lending sector and client/user needs and requirements.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Create an environment in which the team pursues effective and efficient operations while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk and regulatory compliance.

OTHER DUTIES

Accepts other duties as assigned. Works with the Director of Commercial Administration and/or the Director of Commercial Banking on projects within the Commercial Bank, as needed.

  • 3-5 years' experience with nCino
  • Experience with nCino administration and/or implementation
  • 3-5 years’ experience with digital, operational platform

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Four-year degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or related field, or equivalent experience from years in Banking; Graduation from a recognized school of banking (or equivalent experience) is an asset.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in credit analysis, commercial banking, business banking, portfolio management or credit approval/denial decisions, training. Familiarity with loan structuring and loan documentation is required.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge in accounting and lending principles, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills. Must have an in-depth knowledge of Federal and State lending regulations and Bank policies related to lending procedures.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS/CLASSES

  • SouthState Bank credit policies, procedures, and underwriting standards
  • Product Manager, Product Owner, or Scrum training is an asset
  • Annual regulatory and compliance training
  • Additional training may be required, as needed

Will manage the Commercial Product Manager (nCino) and support the build out of additional Commercial Product team members, as the department grows.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

Must be able to stand and/or sit for long periods of time. Must be able to effectively access and interpret information on computer screens, documents, and reports.

TRAVEL

This position requires travel to various South State locations as well as conferences, vendors, and other users.
