The Opportunity: Morningstar Manager Research have a requirement for a Director of Manager Research Ratings to lead the Australia and New Zealand analyst team, delivering high quality and timely research to clients. The Director is responsible for leading qualitative research on Australian and New Zealand fund managers and their strategies, driving the integrity of the Manager Research process. The role is based in Sydney.

What you’ll do:

  • Responsible for the quality and timeliness of Morningstar’s manager research output across Australian and New Zealand, including ETFs and LICs.
  • Responsible and accountable for the Australian and New Zealand manager research analyst team, staff retention and development.
  • Lead Morningstar’s manager review process and internal research processes including being accountable for the Australasian Fund Ratings Committee and the performance of Australian and NZ ratings recommendations.
  • Assist Morningstar Research Analysts in formulating and defending our opinions on manager strategies, asset classes and investment approaches.
  • Play a key role linking up with global analyst teams and harmonizing the global research effort as well as contributing to the local Australian business.
  • Provide a clear structure and professional working environment for your staff to perform. Provide clear direction and an ‘open door’ policy if staff require clarification, direction and assistance.
  • Enhance Morningstar’s profile in Australia and NZ through maintaining a public profile, media presence, authoring articles and research.
  • Work with Product Managers (Direct / ARC / Adviser Logic / .com.au) to ensure Manager Research makes a positive contribution to Morningstar’s software platforms. Work with the Product managers to deliver new product initiatives where relevant to Manager Research.
  • Deliver continual enhancements to Morningstar’s manager research reports in line with client expectations.
  • Provide assistance and advice on the Australian and New Zealand fund database.
  • Relationship management with clients, media, and funds management organizations.
  • Answering questions about our research and industry issues with the media.

About you:

  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role leading a high performing team
  • Ability to use own initiative and work unsupervised together with the ability to prioritise effectively and work in a methodical manner to meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills both written and oral with the capability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality at all times.
  • Proactive aptitude to building effective internal and external relationships with key stakeholders and acting as a representative of Morningstar.
  • Strong attention to detail with proven analytical skills.
  • A keen knowledge of financial markets that has been developed both personally and professionally.
