About this role

  • Provide reliable, responsive, accurate and timely payroll service in support of compensation, benefits, payroll tax and reporting services. 
  • Supervise assigned Payroll team including oversight of the payroll tasks assigned to payroll coordinators/lead and development of their career progression
  • This position also liaises with several internal and external stakeholders regarding a variety of matters, including but not limited to; wages, benefit and pension plans, reporting and software issues.

Your role will consist of

  • Supervise work of payroll coordinator / specialist including oversight of the payroll tasks assigned to payroll analysts and development of their career progression
  • Coordinate the daily payroll activities and functions to ensure smooth operations.
  • Responsible for serving as a senior liaison for payroll related matters with superior customer service. 
  • Back-up for processing bi-weekly, monthly, special payrolls, and year-end payrolls for salaried & hourly employees in a timely and accurate manner using SAP.
  • Accurately process changes forwarded by HR, while ensuring adherence to all relevant policies and procedures, permits, and regulations. 
  • Responsible for verifying the payroll data for accuracy, correcting any errors, or omissions, and ensuring the completion of the bi-weekly and monthly payrolls by the strict time-sensitive deadline. 
  • Responsible for balancing earnings and deductions totals, inspecting automated system outputs such as registers and standard reports, determining and correcting out-of-balance conditions. 
  • Process and monitor garnishment orders
  • Transmits direct deposit file to the bank, resolves incomplete transactions, including rejected funds and other processing problems. 
  • Responsible for generating and posting journal entries
  • Liaison with Finance on GL reconciliation issues & mapping
  • Prepare, submit and file tax/premium reports to respective government agencies as well as internal/external reporting to 3rd party vendors.
  • Responsible for assisting with year-end W-2 reconciliation and tax reporting.
  • Maintain detailed records and documentation of payroll functions for audit purposes, in accordance with statutory requirements and company taxonomy.
  • Subject matter expert participating in payroll projects/integration efforts.
  • First point of contact for matters of escalation relating to payroll
  • Provides direction and assistance to the department regarding payroll process and systems
  • Conducts various payroll reconciliations and troubleshoots issues that arise
  • Coordinates, develops and maintains written documentation regarding payroll procedures and processes for reference/training materials
  • Trains Payroll Specialists and participates in and coordinates Payroll department training sessions.
  • Provides immediate response to requests for clarification and interpretation of data.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Manager.

Your training, skills, and experience checklist

  • A minimum 6-8 years of payroll experience 
  • Experience and familiarity with SAP considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Self-motivated in keeping abreast of legislative and regulatory changes.
  • Proficient with methods, principles and practices involved in the preparation, calculation and processing of payroll.
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking and priority management skills.
  • Ability to positively contribute in a team environment, contributing to shared team goals.
  • Ability to effectively investigate & problem solve technological issues related to payroll processing.
  • Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining an impeccable level of accuracy, quality and meticulous attention to details.

Working conditions and location

  • The position is located in the Denver Regional Office
  • Position may be required to travel to and assist other domestic and international sites.
  • Work may require overtime

The salary range offered for this role is USD $90,720-107,730. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate’s salary history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about salary history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont. 

This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance.
