Project Description

The purpose of the anticipated USAID/Southern Africa’s Countering Wildlife Crime Activity is to reduce threats to and protect biodiversity from wildlife crimes in Southern Africa. The Activity will build on the long history of the USAID Southern Africa Regional Mission in countering wildlife crimes (CWC) through partnerships with regional organizations, governments, the private sector, and civil society. The anticipated program will be based in Pretoria, South Africa and provide programming within USAID-supported countries within Southern Africa, which includes Angola, Botswana, eSwatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Responsibilities

Position Description

RTI International is seeking CVs from qualified technical applicants for the anticipated USAID Southern Africa’s Countering Wildlife Crime Activity. These positions will be based in Pretoria, South Africa or elsewhere in Southern Africa on a case-by-case basis.

Position is contingent upon award and funding.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and 12 years of experience, Master's degree and 10 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Experience in one or more of the following technical areas:
  • Wildlife crime enforcement
  • Law enforcement strengthening
  • Corruption reduction and resiliency against corruption
  • Natural resources policy
  • Project management and regional coordination
  • Knowledge management and adult learning
  • Systems thinking and collaborating, learning, and adapting (CLA)
  • Monitoring and evaluation, especially in accordance with the USG Statement of Managers
  • Protected/conservation area management
  • Outreach and engagement with local and indigenous communities
  • Gender and youth inclusion
  • Capacity Building / Institutional Strengthening
  • Private Sector Engagement and partnerships building
  • Climate Risk Management
  • Prior experience working on a USAID-funded or other international donor-funded project.
  • Strong management skills and the ability to manage projects and teams with remote offices or team members.
  • Excellent oral and written English language communication skills required; fluency in local language(s) strongly preferred.
