We’re seeking a future team member for the role of Sr Vice President, Counsel- Asset Servicing and Digital to join our Digital organization. This role is located in Pittsburgh, PA- Hybrid

The Digital organization within BNY Mellon sets the direction for the firm’s digital future and drives investments in our digital capabilities, including data management, analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning and robotics. Asset Servicing and Digital were combined to help accelerate Asset Servicing’s transformation into a more data- and analytics-led business.

Role Overview We are looking for an energetic self-starter to serve as Counsel to the Asset Servicing and Digital (“ASD") business. The attorney who fills this role will be expected to contribute as part of a larger team and to independently advise the business. We expect the candidate to primarily support ASD’s Fund Services group, which provides fund accounting, administration, transfer agency, middle office, custody and other services to a wide variety of registered and unregistered funds, ETFs, UITs and other investment vehicles. Exposure to digital assets (e.g. cryptocurrencies and tokenized assets), distributed ledger technology, data and analytics, asset management and/or financial institutions practice is preferred but not required. This position will require the individual to draft and negotiate a variety of services contracts and other related agreements. A successful applicant will also work closely with business colleagues in evaluating and supporting the implementation of new technologies and business strategies.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways: 

  • Function as a trusted internal resource capable of using knowledge of BNY Mellon's businesses, products, services and/or strategies to articulate and advance legal positions.
  • Demonstrate the ability to handle a broad portfolio of legal issues.
  • Work collaboratively, seeking guidance and input from colleagues throughout the organization to ensure solutions align to global legal strategies.
  • Partner with colleagues who also serve in an advisory or oversight capacity, such as those in Risk, Audit, Compliance, etc.
  • Manage outside counsel, reviewing work for appropriateness, quality and alignment to expectations.
  • Develop a broad understanding of ASD products and services.
  • Work flexibly in a hybrid in-office and remote environment.

To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following: 

  • A J.D. from a top-tier law school.
  • Bar admission in the relevant jurisdiction in which the role is based.
  • 3 years minimum of professional experience as an admitted attorney.
  • Prior corporate legal experience within the asset management and/or financial services industry or comparable law firm experience preferred.
  • Transactional experience and contract drafting and negotiation strongly desired
  • Prior experience with custodial bank products and services desirable but not necessary; candidate must show willingness to learn.
  • Experience working with technology, software, digital assets, blockchain, data and analytics legal issues, a strong plus.
