Position Overview

The Director, Compensation is an exciting opportunity for a compensation leader who thrives in a high-growth, mission-driven environment. You will set the vision and be responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of compensation programs, including base pay, bonus and incentive pay, executive compensation, and equity programs. You will partner with key stakeholders to ensure the compensation strategy and programs support the Exact Sciences business objectives and deliver value and equitable compensation. As the Director, Compensation, you will also address ongoing business needs and make decisions based on best practices, market data/analytics and your previous experience overseeing compensation strategy at a publicly traded company.

As a member of the global Total Rewards team, you will lead our compensation team which includes a team of Compensation Partners/consultants and the Compensation Design & Operations team in the delivery of innovative, competitive, and analytically driven compensation programs. You will partner with other key stakeholders including Business Leaders and our Talent Management team to design, implement, and administer compensation programs for our growing company.

We prefer this role to be in Madison, WI.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Design compensation plans that align with our compensation philosophy and sustain our competitive position.
  • Lead compensation related projects and initiatives with significant strategic and financial impact.
  • Lead, design and analyze all components of the compensation program: base pay, discretionary annual bonus and equity including executive compensation to ensure market competitive positioning.
  • Continually assess market conditions and pay practices to ensure competitiveness of compensation plans and programs.
  • Manage all relationships with external compensation consultants and vendors.
  • Lead and inspire a best-in-class team of compensation talent and enabling their career growth and value.
  • Partner with Business Leaders and Talent Management & Talent Acquisition to strategically influence decisions aligned with our compensation philosophy to competitively attract and retain talent.
  • Gain a deep understanding of business priorities, challenges, and partners to strengthen our ability to attract, grow and retain top talent.
  • Lead the Compensation Program Design &Operations and Compensation Partners/Consultant teams to drive consistency in compensation planning, program administration, performance summary cycles and compensation investment prioritization.
  • Provide strong project leadership, focusing on key outcomes.
  • Be a thought leader, influencer, and collaborator on a range of compensation topics.
  • Be an internal thought leader and provided any needed support to the Human Capital Committee and public reporting obligations (proxy filings, CD&A, ESG reports etc.).

  • Deep knowledge of equity programs and practices.

  • Experience with compensation analytics tools and benchmarking surveys.
  • Excellent relationship builder with highly collaborative skills and the ability to think and communicate proactively.
  • Advanced analytical and project management skills with the ability to design clear processes that are detail-oriented yet flexible.
  • Strong business acumen, including a strategic mindset.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and inspire employees to do their best work through coaching.
  • Uphold company mission and values through accountability, innovation, integrity, quality, and teamwork.
  • Support and comply with the company’s Quality Management System policies and procedures.

  • Ability and means to travel 10% between local Exact Sciences locations.
  • Ability to travel 10% of working time away from work location, may include overnight/weekend travel.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A leader that shows humility, will and vision, while developing the best team.

  • A change agent with demonstrated experience driving change and sparking innovation and new ideas.
  • 10+ years of compensation/total rewards experience.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience.
  • Industry knowledge of healthcare companies.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Salary Range:

$174,000.00 - $277,000.00

The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - WI - Madison on a full-time basis. In addition, this position is bonus eligible, and is eligible to receive company stock upon hire as well as annually.
