This role reports into the Operational Risk Management Department as a part of Texas Capital Bank’s Second Line of Defense organization. It will serve as the second line of defense independent challenge function covering all aspects of Operational Risk for the bank’s Commercial Banking segment. This role will perform 2LOD operational risk management functions required to support Operational Risk Programs including RCSAs, Payment Products Risk Assessment, KRIs and Risk Appetite metrics, Loss Events, Emerging Risks, Tops Risks, Policy/Process Map/Procedure Reviews, Risk Tiering, New Initiatives Risk Assessment, Issues Management, Committee reporting, and other executive level risk assessment and reporting tasks as needed, for the bank’s commercial sector. This role will also regularly interact with senior and executive management across the business, operations, technology and other 1LOD and 2LOD Risk groups.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and assess significant operational risks, using financial services industry standard program methodology such as the RCSA program. Evaluate current control environment effectiveness and quality of risk management in business processes that manage against our products and services / regulatory requirements. Identify gaps and issues against desired control environment for significant operational risks across the bank.
  • Execute the RCSA program by leading, documenting, and completing Risk and Control Self Assessments (RCSAs) for many business and corporate functions risk assessable units (RAUs) across the bank. RCSA responsibilities include but are not limited to: plan and schedule RCSA execution timeline for individual RAUs, document RAU profile that include structural, strategic, and external factors that make up the inherent risk environment, understand individual RAU objective, functions, processes through available procedural documents and/or process walk-throughs with the business, manage and facilitate working meetings with senior business leaders and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), document and assess risks and controls, evaluate multiple sources of input data , and interpedently identify process gaps and enhancements, and work with various stakeholders across the business and risk to mitigate undesired risks. 
  • Assist leadership across the company to construct holistic (end-to-end, front-to-back) risk profile that takes into consideration multiple operational risk drivers such as human resources, process design, third parties, technology, data, security, business continuity, etc. , including data analysis, and presenting data in easily consumable formats to senior and executive management of the bank, and identify and implement program/GRC tool system enhancements with the support of the IT functions
  • Identify, document, and lead through issues resolution while managing relationship with senior business leaders across the bank to ensure accountability of issue ownership and timely resolution
  • Act as both trusted risk manager/partner and credible 2LOD risk independent challenge professional to support our businesses
  • Partner with various 2LOD risk management program to align different risk programs to identify opportunities of synergy and efficiency, while being goal oriented to complete deliverables, promoting our risk culture across all three lines of defense
  • Work directly in the bank’s risk software application for communication and documentation on a daily basis
  • Design and deliver educational, training or other materials to support desired risk culture across the risk teams and the bank
  • Support other risk management functions, committee reporting, policy and governance framework, such as drafting of committee meeting materials, drafting and updating policies and programs documents, and maintaining committee charters, etc.
  • Other Ad-Hoc Projects as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Business related fields, such as Finance, Accounting, or Mathematics etc.is required, and minimum 7 years of financial services experience in 1LOD risk management teams, 2LOD Operational Risk Management, Technology Risk Management, Enterprise Risk Management, Compliance, Internal or External Audit related to RCSAs, KRIs, Internal / External Losses, Scenario Analysis, organizational Change Management, and/or program strategic design and execution.
  • Specific knowledge and experience within the commercial sector of Financial Services industry is required, either from a 1LOD standpoint, or from a 2LOD or 3LOD risk management/audit standpoint.
  • Specific knowledge and experience with risk management frameworks, common assessment methodology, corporate governance, process improvement, six-sigma/lean six-sigma, financial services, and Project Management is required.
  • Specific knowledge and experience with expert understanding of the back-end data structure of a risk management GRC system is required, and specific experience with the Archer GRC tool is a plus.
  • Ability to quickly understand end-to-end processes of complex business operations through multiple channels of information gathering, to identify risks, process gaps, and collaborate with stakeholders to problem-solve, and lead issue through full resolution.
  • Ability to influence, develop and maintain productive working relationships across business, functions, and lines of defense.
  • Demonstrated ability in communicating effectively, both verbally and written. Comfortable presenting and influencing senior business management using both verbal and written communications such as PowerPoint presentations, Data visualization dashboards, and effective email messages. Ability to explain complex concepts in simple language. Superior communication skills – both verbal and written – is one of the critical success factors for this role.
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills, advanced user of Microsoft Office Excel, Powerpoint, and Word is required. Experience and expertise with managing and analyzing large sets of data is required. Ability to build and manage data visualization tools such as Tableau or PowerBI is preferred. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player. Ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships across business, functions, and lines of defense. Understanding of financial analysis – able to work with financial statements / reports.
  • Independent self-starter can work independently to produce quality work, and work in collaboration with others to perfect collective work products. 
  • Well organized and detail oriented to handle diverse and concurrent assignments under specific and urgent timelines
