The Architectural and Workplace Design Leader has enterprise responsibility for leading a team of designers and partner architecture firms in support of real estate related construction and tenant improvement projects. The role is responsible for maintaining oversight and enhancements of the current design standards. Reporting to the Associate VP of Workplace Strategy, the Architecture and Workplace Design Leader coordinates with architecture and engineering firms in developing design criteria and preparing layout and detail drawings for a variety of different construction project types.

This position also has the important responsibility to maintain business relationships with key members of the real estate and workplace services team, IT organization, security, audio/visual team, marketing/branding teams, finance, procurement, business unit representatives, outside vendors and various leadership groups.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating all planning and design efforts including project initiation, discovery, programming, proposed solutions, costing and approvals. Working with the requesting business unit, construction manager, IT, audio/visual and security to create effective and efficient design solutions
  • Ensure that architectural designs meet environmental, safety, structural, zoning, and aesthetic standards. This includes a working knowledge of government regulations and environmental health and safety codes such as UBC, UFC, OSHA, ADA, and building codes
  • Maintaining the accuracy of the design standard guidelines, updating, and disseminating the information to the construction team, security, IT, architects and general contractors as needed on a regular basis
  • Evaluation and management of various outsourced architectural firm’s performance. This includes the responsibility to manage architectural contract terms and conditions, service level agreements, and key performance indicators, and the need periodically bid service providers locally to support unique business or project needs
  • Evaluation and management of FF&E contracts, MSAs and vendor relationships
  • Drive coordination between Workplace Solutions, audio/visual, security and IT teams relating to project design and standards
  • Manage the design change order process throughout projects
  • Inspect construction and installation progress for conformance to established drawings, specifications, and schedules

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or Interior Architecture
  • 10 or more years of experience in leading large corporate design projects, developing floor plans and programing, and managing concurrent projects through all phases of design
  • 5 or more years managing architectural design and project programming of real estate related projects on a national scale, including the creation and management of global design standards and specification
  • 3 or more years of experience leading a team of architects and designers to execute project deliverables and develop design standards
  • Experience and comfort with executive-level presentations and project reviews to capture design vision and execute directives
  • Experience in leading a strategic organization focused on outsourcing relationships and strategic integration
  • Experience exercising independent judgment and decision making on complex issues regarding job duties and related tasks, and works under minimal supervision
  • Possess excellent verbal/written communication skills, strong sense of urgency, team player, and strong customer service skills
  • Approximately 5-10% travel required to visit construction sites, existing locations and potential new locations.
  • If selected for hire not within proximity to the Louisville, KY Humana Waterside office, you must be willing to self-relocate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in architecture, design or business administration
  • Facilities certification (CFM, PMP, certification, IFMA credentials)
  • 6 or more years' experience related to space planning, architectural and design field for corporate office and clinical environments
  • AutoCAD and REVIT experience

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay decisions will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.

$102,200 - $140,675

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
