The Opportunity: The Chief Australian Market Strategist is responsible for the production of actionable commentary and research to engage a diverse audience spanning individual, adviser and institutional clients. As a key Morningstar face, the strategist serves as a vital conduit between Morningstar research content and our audience and helps to drive engagement. The role creates value for clients and prospects through thoughtful insights and amplification of our most valuable fundamental research. The strategist also enhances our research and methodology through collaboration with the equity, manager and Morningstar Investment Management research teams.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Weekly Overview: Commentary and analysis on markets, economics, securities and broader investment themes relevant and valuable to investors. 
  • Quarterly Markets and Economics Pulse: Quarterly lay of the land for investors, connecting the economic and investing environment to actionable investment ideas and opportunities.
  • Ad-hoc Research and Analysis: Selective reactions to major market and economic events.
  • Investment Context: Characterise the current economic conditions and outlook. Link to investment opportunities by leveraging the fundamental analysis of Morningstar’s research team.
  • Educate: Produce content that educates investors on investment fundamentals, ideally tied to topical events and/or investment ideas.
  • Visibility: Be a key face and voice to represent Morningstar Australia’s market views prominently, for example in the media on television and podcasts, with clients and at conferences.
  • Build Engagement: Engage with the full range of client types to drive revenues. Identify opportunities with product and sales teams to retain and win new business.
  • Collaborate: Enhance our methodology and research through collaboration. Leverage existing best practices for market strategists and economists fit for purpose for the Australian market. Work with the equity research team to surface individual security ideas of value to clients. Seek to reduce duplication and harmonise workflows across the broader Morningstar Australia research team.

About you:

  • Demonstrated fundamental research experience and expertise 
  • Deep knowledge of, and alignment to Morningstar’s Research methodologies 
  • Be the face of our research to engage a broad audience; from individual to institutional investor
  • Effective collaboration across teams, including the broader ANZ research team
  • Aggregation of investment ideas across asset classes to present a consistent “One Morningstar” view
  • Ability to leverage economic information and forecasts into fundamental investment ideas
  • Passion for driving positive investor and commercial outcomes
