Job Description:

As an Astera Labs Head of Manufacturing and Testing (Asia), you will be part of a Hardware Engineering Operations team that supports design and manufacturing products featuring Astera Labs’ portfolio of connectivity ASICs used in the world’s leading AI/ML cloud service providers, server and network OEMs. In this role you be partnering with your Business Operations counterpart or ODM/CMs to ensure smooth New Product Introduction and transition to volume production.

To achieve this you be responsible for manufacturing, test, initial and ongoing reliability testing, and any other “technical” activities taking place in our overseas factories. You will work closely with US based engineering teams but have independence / accountability to solve problems with your Asia based team.

Successful candidate will have a mix of experience working for both CM and OEM companies. Should have technical (electrical engineering or manufacturing preferred) background and experience working in test, manufacturing, or product engineering roles. Successful track record in new product introduction or volume production of high tech pcba products.

You will be managing your local manufacturing/test team, working with contract manufacturer’s technical teams, and collaborating with engineering/manufacturing teams in US. This position will directly report to VP of Hardware Engineering and Manufacturing based in US.

Here are some activities you will be responsible for

  • New product introduction and transition into volume production
  • Work on test plan with engineering team in US for the manufacturing sites
  • Day-to-day management of Asia based test/manufacturing team
  • Primary person responsible for all manufacturing and test activities at contract manufacturers. Own driving issues to resolution.
  • Work w/ CM, local suppliers, and US team on test infrastructure development, installation, and support. Own manufacturing test infrastructure (functional test, temperature/burn-in, ESS). Work with design and diagnostic teams to define test process in the manufacturing sites.
  • Work with contract manufacturers and test fixture suppliers to define, develop, procure, and install test equipment well in testing lines.
  • Analyze end-to-end manufacturing capacity and work with operations team for future planning
  • Analize manufacturing yields during NPI and Mass production, work with Engineering team in US to improve yield to expectations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners on developing CM ability to prototype, launch, and transition to volume production
  • Work with factory and engineering teams to troubleshoot failures
  • Be “first line of defense” for manufacturing and test issues
  • Participate in / help to define manufacturing processes (NPI, product engineering, validation, quality)
  • Collaborate with test engineering team to resolve test issues + maintain yields
  • Collaborate with test engineering team to develop test platform / software
  • Work with factory and quality teams to execute initial and ongoing reliability testing
  • Collaborate with quality team and drive factory to resolve quality issues

Basic Qualifications

  • 15+ years in manufacturing/test/product engineering
  • 10+ years of management experience
  • Strong academic and technical background in electrical engineering or electronic manufacturing. Bachelor’s in EE or equivalent experience is required.
  • Entrepreneurial, open-minded behavior and can-do attitude. Think and act with the customer in mind!
  • Able to travel to CM as needed.
  • Fluent English

Required Experience

  • Strong understanding of high-tech manufacturing processes, NPI activities, and product development lifecycle
  • Experience in test infrastructure development
