Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

What We’re Looking For:

Iridium is seeking an exceptional and experienced Senior Engineer within our Systems Integration & Test engineering team who will perform requirements analysis, test planning, test case development on new products and services; perform systems level testing and end-to-end analysis; and support team members with advanced systems knowledge. The Senior Engineer will be able to; work with limited direction; independently document and present results and troubleshoot issues.

What You’ll Do:

  • Apply knowledge of systems level testing by performing test planning, procedure development, test execution, analysis, and issue resolution for all aspects of the Iridium system including but not limited to:
  • Testing of satellite payload communications systems
  • Iridium GSM based telephony and services
  • Space Vehicle (SV) to L-Band subscriber equipment
  • Space flight vehicle bus/platform operations
  • Ground network configurations and SV command and control
  • Conduct requirements analysis and decomposition of systems requirements into verifiable test objectives
  • Actively participate in activities to define, configure, and maintain lab environments
  • Support customers and team members to achieve project delivery milestones
  • Perform and implement continuous improvement processes that reduce test cycle time and improve product quality, and implement best practices
  • Create documentation that clearly presents complex information in a discernable manner

Experience & Education Requirements / EEO

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field
  • Minimum of 8 years progressive experience in an Engineering role, preferable in a Systems Integration & Test function
  • Knowledge of RF communications and principals
  • Experience in test and analysis activities of complex communications and/or space-based systems
  • Self-motivation, critical thinking abilities with a high degree of creativity, flexibility, and resourcefulness
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey products, deliverables, analyses, and/or issues to groups outside of your team or those who are unfamiliar with the topic
  • Have confidence and be able to easily build relationships with leadership and colleagues outside of your team
  • Possess an analytical mindset, with the ability to understand a situation or problem and think critically to make decisions and come up with out-of-the-box solutions
  • Be proactive in providing feedback and be enthusiastic in sharing your knowledge with others
  • Capable of prioritizing your own tasks and potentially the tasks of others while making sure deadlines are met

Things That Would be Great if You Brought to the Table:

  • Experience with Linux and/or Unix operating systems
  • Knowledge of computer networking
  • Exposure or experience with laboratory test equipment (oscilloscopes, network analyzers, protocol analyzers such as Wireshark, etc.)
  • Experience with software management tools (JIRA, Bamboo, etc.)
  • Experience developing software in C, C++, C#, Java, Python, Perl and/or other computer languages
  • Experience testing with the Agile Software Development methodology

We’ll Also Need You To:

  • Be willing and able to travel up to 15 days annually
  • Be willing and able to be on-call to support operational issues
  • US Citizenship is required

Work Environment:

This position primarily works in the company office or in a home office. The position is largely sedentary with the majority of the position sitting in a chair and working with a computer. The role uses basic office equipment including a phone, video, computer, keyboard, mouse, and printer.
