Ethicon is recruiting for a Summer intern, located in Raritan, NJ.

The Ethicon business offers a broad range of products, platforms and technologies-including sutures, hemostasis products, surgical staplers, trocars, energy devices and synthetic mesh devices-that are used in a wide variety of minimally invasive and open surgical procedures. Specialties include support for treatment of colorectal and thoracic conditions, general surgery, hernias, oncology, and obesity. The Ethicon business combines products and services of two market leading legacy companies, both with long histories of medical innovation. Ethicon, Inc. based in Somerville, New Jersey, was founded more than 80 years ago as a pioneer in suture development and manufacturing, helping to transform the safety and effectiveness of open surgery. A Summer Intern position is available in the Microbiology Department of R&D. The position is for a limited term during the summer of 2024 for 40/hrs per week during that term.

The responsibilities may include some or all of the following:

The intern will learn and apply industrial microbiology skills while working closely with expert scientists in a medical device-centered laboratory. The new product development work includes investigation into antimicrobial applications and in vitro model development.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Hands-on laboratory work in a microbiology lab performing testing, media preparation, data collection and related tasks.
  • Developing test methods.
  • Designing and validating experimental procedures
  • Performing these activities under minimal supervision
  • Good documentation practices, including writing test protocols, generating final reports, and summarizing findings in a laboratory notebook
  • Following all lab safety rules and compliance related procedures
