Position Overview:

The Major Gift Officer will be responsible for leading fundraising initiatives with major gift donors and prospects through research, acquisition, cultivation and stewardship. All efforts will be coordinated in partnership with the VP of Resource Development, Director of Donor Engagement, Senior Director, Institutional Giving and Philanthropy, specifically driven towards current, specifically driven towards current, past and prospective individual, family foundation and traditional foundation donors, and leading donors in our corporate partner network.

What you will do:

  • Manage a portfolio of current and prospective donors. Through cultivation and engagement, develop deep, strategic, year-round, sustainable relationships with donors and prospects within portfolio.
  • Identify the philanthropic goals and objectives of each assigned donor, establishing oneself as a primary resource and contact in their relationship with UWNYC.
  • Ensures a comprehensive understanding of donors’ backgrounds. Develops and executes custom strategy for each donor to increase retention and higher levels of giving.
  • Drives awareness of UWNYC, its mission, fundraising, and needs to the individuals and foundations within assigned portfolio.
  • Support the maintenance of accurate donor data within the organization’s CRM system; Ensure timely entry of notes from meetings, phone calls, etc. in such system.
  • Provide outstanding donor service and recognition for organization’s donors that reflects an attitude of thanks and gratefulness.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:

Three years’ experience in major gifts fundraising with a proven track record of raising major gifts in the $5,000 and above levels.

Superior ability to develop and sustain positive relationships with donors.

Strong organizational skills, ability to set priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously and to work calmly under the pressure of deadlines.

Demonstrated ability with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), donor databases (i.e. Salesforce, Raisers Edge, Iwave, and Wealth Engine).

Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills.

High energy and personal initiative

Operate effectively both as a highly self-motivated and independent contributor, as well as, in a team environment and a member of a cross functional team.

Knowledge of development principles, fund raising techniques and ethics, including moves management donor strategies.

Ability to develop and maintain solid and effective working relationships with internal and external constituents.

Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills.

Presence and confidence to project credibility to leadership.
