A Brief Overview

The Vice President of Strategic Sourcing and Supplier Relations is a transformative leadership role within the health system, accountable for the strategic vision and execution of sourcing practices that drive optimal value and efficiency across Stanford Medicine (Stanford Healthcare, Stanford Childrens, Stanford Tri-Valley, Stanford Medicine Partners, Packard Children's Healthcare Alliance, and Stanford Blood Center). This role will be key to the 4.2B dollars in non-labor expense management across Stanford Medicine. This executive will lead a comprehensive approach to sourcing, procurement, non-labor spend expense management, and supplier engagement, ensuring a collaborative and innovative culture within the supply chain management department. This position is a key partner to tier 4 executives, medical directors, chairs, physicians, and leaders across the entities supporting system negotiations and cost reduction strategies. Functions & departments that report to this role include: Purchasing, Category Management, Recall Management, Sourcing/Supplier Relations, Receiving, Non-Labor Spend Program, Value Based Management/Selection Program.

What you will do

  • STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP AND VISION: Craft and communicate a strategic sourcing vision aligned with Stanford Medicine’s overall goals. Guide the strategic sourcing and procurement function to achieve best-in-class status, ensuring a competitive edge for the organization.
  • TEAM DEVELOPMENT AND MANAGEMENT: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of sourcing and procurement professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and excellence. Build a cohesive team that collaborates effectively with stakeholders across the organization.
  • SUPPLIER RELATIONSHIP AND PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT: Establish and cultivate strategic relationships with key suppliers, driving mutual value creation. Oversee supplier performance, ensuring compliance with service level agreements and performance metrics.
  • CONTRACT NEGOTIATION AND MANAGEMENT: Lead complex contract negotiations, securing favorable terms that provide value and mitigate risk. Implement and oversee a robust contract lifecycle management process.
  • INNOVATION AND PROCESS IMPROVEMENT: Drive innovation within the sourcing function by leveraging technology, analytics, and best practices. Employ Lean, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies to streamline processes and increase efficiency.
  • VALUE ANALYSIS AND EXPENSE MANAGEMENT: Oversee a value base management and non-labor spend programs to ensure the selection of high-quality, cost-effective products and services. Develop strategies for non-labor expense management, optimizing the organization's capital budget.
  • RISK MANAGEMENT: Develop and execute a supply chain risk management plan that includes disaster recovery processes. Incorporate risk mitigation strategies into all aspects of sourcing and supplier management.

Education Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in business, Supply Chain, or a related field.

Experience Qualifications

  • Fifteen (15) years of professional experience in sourcing, with a deep understanding of strategic sourcing.
  • Seven (7) years of leadership.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong strategic thinking and leadership skills.
  • Expert negotiation skills with a track record of successful contract management.
  • Proficiency in strategic sourcing software and analytic tools, e.g., Vizient, ECRI, Workday
  • Advanced Excel skills and a solid grasp of procedural cost per case analysis.
  • Experience leading cross-functional sourcing or Value Analysis teams.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in business process improvement and performance management.
  • Proven ability to manage projects from conception through to successful implementation.
  • Knowledgeable in best practices in strategic sourcing across multiple categories and suppliers.

Licenses and Certifications

  • CPPC, CPIM, CSCP, CPC/M, or other relevant purchasing/materials certification preferred .

Base Pay Scale: Generally starting at $140.00 - $185.19 per hour

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
