Job Description:

We’re actively seeking a talented Financial Analysis Consultant to join our Finance in Newport Beach, CA. This role can be on-site or hybrid.

As a Financial Analysis Consultant, you’ll play a key role in Pacific Life’s growth and long-term success by providing clarity and insight to the operating expense budget and delivering strategic decision support to Senior Leadership by taking part in the execution of our multi-year transformation program in the Consumer Markets Division. As a Business Partner to functional leaders, you will deliver data-driven insights into key expenses and help them manage their spendYou will fill an existing role that sits on a team of 7 people in the largest division in Pacific Life. Your colleagues will include fellow Financial Analyst professionals.

How you will make an impact:

  • Act as the central contact and key resource for functional leaders in expense management
  • Understand the key drivers of expenses and connect the business environment and business strategy with the expense budget and forecast
  • Encourage accountability to the budget, performing a detailed variance analysis each month and presenting findings to senior functional leaders
  • Prepare business reporting analysis and other ad hoc business requests
  • Have excellent communication skills, and also be highly analytical, able to interpret and analyze data in order to identify trends and communicate findings.
  • Be incredibly organized, have a can-do attitude, have an aptitude for seeing the broader picture, and see impacts to downstream processes
  • Drive automation and process improvement in all areas you touch

Essential duties and responsibilities:

50% Prepare annual budget of operating expenses for the Consumer Markets Division.

  • Act as central contact for functional leaders and their delegates.
  • Requires cross-departmental coordination between budget stakeholders, payroll, financial systems team, financial controls team, human resources, and other divisions.
  • Report monthly, quarterly and annual expense performance vs plan.
  • Obtained detailed understanding of budgets and variances to budget on a monthly basis.
  • Prepare reports for key stakeholders of annual expense budget, budget targets, expense drivers and expense trends.
  • Work proactively with key stakeholders to capture all planned expenses within Hyperion.
  • Review and analyze Corporate allocations.

35% Identify emerging trends through analytics associated with expense drivers and other key metrics. 

  • Gather data and analyze trends and relationships with expense drivers.
  • Identify areas of cost savings opportunities, develop key performance indicators, and set benchmarks and goals with key stakeholders.
  • Present results and findings to Senior Leadership.

15% Month End Close

  • Work with key stakeholders to estimate accruals needed at month-end.
  • Capitalization or reclass journal entry calculations as needed

The experience you will bring:

  • 7+ years relevant experience.
  • 3+ years experience as a Business Partner in a cross-functional decision support role within finance.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred, Finance, Economics, or Mathematics considered with equivalent work experience in Accounting. CPA preferred.
  • Demonstrates high attention to detail, accountability, and responsiveness to requests.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to connect the dots and see downstream impact on decisions and actions made upstream.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees to maximize performance, creativity, problem-solving and results.
  • Experience with dashboarding and visualization tools.

What will make you stand out:

  • Experience with Essbase, Hyperion Planning, PeopleSoft, and/or similar systems.
  • Experience with expense allocation methodologies and Activity Based Costing.
  • Experience with Alteryx a plus.

Base Pay Range:

The base pay range noted represents the company’s good faith minimum and maximum range for this role at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to a candidate will be dependent upon several factors, including but not limited to experience, qualifications and geographic location. Also, most employees are eligible for additional incentive pay.

$141,030.00 - $172,370.00
