MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB

Overall Responsibilities:

The enumerators will play a critical role in collecting both quantitative and qualitative data necessary for evaluating and improving health services. This role involves extensive fieldwork, including conducting surveys, interviews, focus group discussions with a wide range of stakeholders within the health sector, data cleaning and transcription. Enumerators are required for temporary assignments.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Data Collection :

  • Implement data collection protocols, including administering surveys, conducting interviews, or extracting data from existing sources, ensuring adherence to study protocols and ethical standards.
  • Conduct qualitative interviews, focus groups, participant observations, or document reviews according to established protocols. Use active listening and probing techniques to elicit detailed responses and explore emerging themes.
  • Recruit study participants or access relevant datasets, ensuring representativeness and diversity as appropriate to the research objectives. This may involve contacting potential participants, explaining the study objectives, and obtaining informed consent.
  • Working closely with health professionals and community members to gather data.

2.Data Management:

  • Verify the accuracy and reliability of collected data through careful review and validation processes. Seek clarification from participants as needed to ensure data clarity and completeness during the process of the interview or after by checking notes and recordings.
  • Transcribe audio recordings (verbatim) or handwritten notes into written text, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Maintain organized records of qualitative data, including translated transcripts, field notes, and other relevant documents.
  • Maintain confidentiality and data security throughout the data management process.

3. Fieldwork Coordination and Management

  • Coordinating with the project management team for smooth operation of field activities.
  • Ensuring timely completion of data collection tasks.

4.Reporting and Feedback

  • Providing daily reports on field activities and data collection challenges to the research supervisors including tracking any potential saturation and communicate with research leads.
  • Communicate regularly with research team members and supervisors to provide updates on data collection progress, challenges, and emerging findings.

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION:

Required:

  • University degree in statistics, epidemiology, public health, psychology, social work, sociology or related discipline

Preferred:

  • Training in public health or related field

REQUIRED MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

Required:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience conducting both qualitative and quantitative research is required
  • Fluency in Kinyarwanda .

Preferred:

  • Experience in health systems research is a plus.
  • Experience with electronic survey tools or mobile apps for data collection is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of the healthcare system, epidemiological concepts, and relevant regulations and policies is desirable.
  • Fluency in English or French and working knowledge of the other are highly desirable.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Proficiency in computer skills, particularly with data collection software and Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge in statistical analysis software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R, Stata, NVivo, Atlas.ti) and data management tools is essential.
  • Capacity of translate verbatim from Kinyarwanda to English
  • Familiarity with ethical principles and guidelines governing research involving human participants, including informed consent, confidentiality, and data protection.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

Travel requirements: The role will offer part-time opportunities, with flexible working hours to accommodate fieldwork schedules. Additional benefits and allowances may be provided for travel and field expenses.
