Plant Production Engineer - Northern Continent

Our Northern Continent operations engineering team provides technical support to our operating industrial gas plants within the Benelux, France and Germany. A wide range of technologies, including air separation, hydrogen generation, CO2, and liquid hydrogen are supported, ranging in size from small standalone plants to world scale facilities. 

To meet increasing workload both to grow and sustain our operations, we are seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Plant Process Engineer, based at our Gent, Belgium facility to expand the process engineering expertise within our Northern Continent engineering team. This opportunity will suit a talented achiever looking to showcase their skills within a high performing team. 

What you’ll be doing

The Plant Production Engineer will be based at the Gent production site. The area of work will be the site’s Air Separation Units (ASU’s) and their pipeline network, as well as the 3 satellite plants located in Belgium. 

As part of the Gent operations team, you will be responsible for the daily operations of the satellite plants, and provide assistance to the Gent operations with operational support in troubleshooting, optimization and project commission and start-up. 

Specifically, the successful candidate will be expected to: 

  • Assume day-to-day responsibility for safe, efficient and reliable operations of the Gent satellite plants.
  • Provide production support to the Gent site, through evaluation of plant productivity improvements, either theoretically or through plant testing and development/implementation of the solution. You will work with the ops team and engineering disciplines to troubleshoot and resolve critical plant issues.
  • Support identification of plant underperformance and drive resolution to ensure on target operation.
  • Support the ops team and plant process engineer in design, review and execution of changes to the plants, including Operational Readiness Inspections and commissioning.
  • Support specialist onsite process and non-standard activities including defrosts and cooldowns. 
  • Provide process support to maintenance activities, energy isolation and plant shutdowns.

A high standard of engineering practice, technical governance and operational discipline must be upheld throughout all these activities.

What we’ll be looking for

  • A high level of technical expertise ideally suited to someone with a Chemical Engineering or related degree with 4+ years relevant experience.
  • Practical, onsite plant experience with a ‘hands-on’ approach.
  • Discipline to work to a schedule and manage competing priorities.
  • Self-motivation with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to work productively, both unsupervised and as part of multi-discipline technical teams.
  • Provide guidance to the satellite plant technicians.
  • Although based in Gent, flexibility to travel to satellite plants on regular basis. As part of the development and gain relevant experience, participation in operational process engineering support during shutdown work at other plants in Belgium, Netherlands, Germany or France. Limited to short multiple day assignments, based on priorities and opportunities.
  • Local language capability (Dutch) and English is required at minimum, French is a plus. You will be part of the Gent site team, but working within the European engineering community.
