We are seeking a Vice President of Foundational Business Communications to join our team.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President and Chief Communications Officer (SVP and CCO), the Vice President of Foundational Business Communications will work closely with the SVP and CCO to develop and execute proactive integrated internal and external communications strategies, messages and programs that contribute to the success of the New York Life’s Foundational Business.

This role supports the Co-Heads of New York Life’s Foundational Business (FB). The FB is built around our more than 12,000 agents affiliated with 115 General Offices across the country offering customers holistic advice and guidance, whether it’s life insurance, annuities, long-term care insurance, disability insurance, investment solutions, or a combination of products.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement an overarching communications strategy, and integrated programs, that enable business objectives for New York Life’s Foundational Business (FB).
  • Build strong, collaborative relationships with FB senior leadership, earning the role of trusted advisor to senior leaders.
  • Establish and execute a compelling and cohesive FB narrative that is consistently articulated across internal and external audiences.
  • Lead the day-to-day operations of the FB communications team, with the ability to drive flawless execution, pivot as needed, and provide leadership as a “player/coach.”
  • Create and implement proactive PR programs to favorably position FB businesses, and FB leaders, with the trade, business and financial press.
  • In close partnership with the FB Head of HR, develop an internal communications strategy to deliver modern and scalable employee experiences and programs that engage staff.
  • Establish objectives and key results (OKRs) and a reporting program to regularly measure the impact of internal and external communications programs and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with leaders across the FB, Corporate Communications and New York Life in support of enterprise objectives.
  • Support corporate culture change initiatives internally and externally.
  • Serve as a senior-level spokesperson for the company to the media and external audiences.

Required Qualifications

  • 20+ years of experience managing internal and external communications, most of which are in the financial services industry.
  • Exceptional track record of developing and implementing successful corporate communication strategies.
  • Expert client relationship manager, with experience providing advice and counsel to senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership, achievement, and excellence in a world-class organization.
  • Collaborative team player with successful experience leading cross-functional teams and projects.
  • Ability to navigate a complex organization and operate within ambiguity is a must.
  • Experience with change management and culture change initiatives.
  • Proven track record managing people and developing effective teams.
  • Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strategic thinker with excellent writing, listening, presentation and communications skills. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism or related field.

Salary range: $225,,000-$275,000 

Overtime eligible: Exempt 

Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes 

Sales bonus eligible: No
