The Vice President, Community Impact, will oversee the Division's Community Impact functions, leading the development, implementation, integration and evaluation of strategies and plans to achieve the Division's health impact and revenue goals aligned with the strategic goals of the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. Inherent in this is the development and practice of culturally competent community engagement across staff and volunteers and advancement of diversity, equity and inclusion. Strategic focus areas include changes in policies, systems and environment that address priority areas including hypertension, cholesterol, nutrition, obesity, tobacco/vaping, and physical activity. Leads division-wide integration of population health strategies in collaboration with other functional disciplines including Advocacy/Government Relations, Development, Quality, Outcomes Research & Analytics (QORA), Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC), and Communications & Marketing partners.

Responsibilities

  • As a member of the Division's management team, consistently models the American Heart Association's leadership competencies and values in advancing the American Heart Association's/American Stroke Association's mission and achievement of health impact and revenue goals. Collaboratively provides vision and direction for the Division's overall initiatives, oversees integrated planning processes for all functional areas within span of control and actively involves, informs and integrates with internal partners across the Division, Region and Association.
  • Drives the development of community action plans that include engagement and positioning strategies, driving to organizational PSE (policies, systems and environment) goals in community and clinical settings. Plans include an engagement strategies for key volunteers and alliances. Brings programs to scale leveraging marketing insights and trends for engagement, therefore driving sustainability. Leads the market's strategy for ensuring local health clinic participation in American Heart Association's national outpatient quality improvement recognition programs.
  • Leads and manages the Division's Health team including recruitment and selection, performance management, development, engagement and succession planning consistent with legal requirements and American Heart Association standards and policies.
  • Effectively builds a network of meaningful volunteer and partner relationships to create a sustainable culture of health within our vulnerable communities. Proactively leads and identifies, recruits, orients and retains volunteers consisting of senior level executives and community leaders within the market to drive the overall community action plan. Builds strategies to full engage and involve volunteer leadership across the region and accountable for the organization and management of volunteers.
  • Leads by example in serving as a catalyst and convener with collective impact coalitions and demonstrates progress through reach of policy, system and environment interventions. Ensures collaboration with Community Impact, Advocacy and other business partners to determine the local public policy focus, strategy and initiatives to address significant population reach that will drive to the reduction of health disparities in diverse audiences including identifying and removing barriers to health care access and quality.
  • Serves as the liaison for the Division with respect to Community Impact, working closely with functional leaders to ensure consistent field implementation of strategic plan priorities, consistent performance standards and ongoing sharing of progress, successes and opportunities.
  • Ensures that the team operates within appropriate operational and financial boundaries and within the financial capacity available. Operate in accordance with the American Heart Association's Fiscal Standard policies and all applicable laws, regulations, policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in voluntary health or related field with progressively responsible experience in community organization, volunteer and staff management.
  • Strategic knowledge of health improvement/PSE interventions.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data, complete appraisal of field situations, develop alternatives and apply decision-making to a field organization.
  • Demonstrated skills in written and oral communications, including large and small group presentations, group facilitation, training and writing clear, concise narrative reports and evaluations.
  • Ability to lead implementation and achievement of organizational strategies.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple and complex projects in a dynamic and matrixed decision making environment.
  • Ability to do daily local travel; requires access to reliable transportation at all times on an immediate basis.

Compensation & Benefits

Expected pay range will be $115,690 to $130,000 annually. Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials to the pay range may apply.
