What you will be responsible for:

Senior Leadership in SSGA Japan

  • As a Senior Managing Director of SSGA, you will be our most senior representative of SSGA in Japan taking on a key role representing SSGA at a senior level to our clients and partners in Japan. We expect you will personally build senior relationships with our largest and most important clients and partners
  • You will leverage your knowledge of external opportunities, threats and conditions to produce insights that plan how SSGA can adapt and grow in Japan
  • With your experience of the Japanese asset management business, you will be a key participant in developing the Japan business strategy to drive our success in the Japanese market with other key stakeholders and demonstrate sound advocacy for our business in Japan
  • Through collaboration with senior leaders responsible for distribution and product strategy you will perform a key role to ensure that our objectives and key results of our organisation in Japan are aligned to our business strategy and align our entire Japanese team to deliver these outcomes.
  • Together with the sales team, support the overall net revenue growth, wallet share, and margin growth of SSGA in Japan.
  • We expect you to motivate our team in Japan with a shared understanding of our Japan strategy and priorities
  • You will thrive in a collaborative, dual management environment which harnesses the strengths that SSGA brings as a top 5 global asset manager combined with the leadership role you will have in Japan.

Governance and Risk Culture in Japan

  • As President and Representative Director you will ensure robust board governance and compliance with contractual, statutory and regulatory obligations
  • You will provide a senior level point of contact for regulators, external audit and other external governance bodies
  • You will act as the escalation point for Japanese client issues, regulatory and other matters across the Japanese business
  • You will ensure a control environment that supports a compliance and risk culture

Organizational and people leadership in SSGA Japan

  • Provide cross-organizational leadership of SSGA business functions in Japan in a collaborative dual management environment
  • Represent SSGA as a senior executive in Japan at State Street (STT) forums
  • Lead collaboration across State Street Bank divisions in Japan to promote the franchise and create a strong outcome for our clients
  • Identify opportunities to partner with Institutional Services (including Alpha and Global Markets) to develop and deliver “One State Street” solutions to clients in Japan
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement
  • You will create and support a strategy of succession and talent planning, developing credible successors for key enterprise roles with other leaders in SSGA Japan

Additional requirements:

  • Minimum of 15 years of asset management industry experience
  • Experience in dealing with institutional and intermediaries business in Japan
  • Experience of operating within a board of directors
  • Existing industry profile and relationships that can accelerate the success of SSGA Japan
  • Fluency in English and Japanese
