Summary:

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) is responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of resident-centered care, to comply with Lutheran Senior Services quality standards and State & Federal regulations; Responsibilities include the oversight and development of all nursing service personnel, performance management, evaluation, monitoring staffing needs, policy and procedures, and communication with resident and family members. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Coordinates and monitors the daily activities of nursing staff

2. Ensures the consistent application of LSS policies; participates in coaching and counseling of nursing staff as necessary

3. Performs administrative duties, including, but not limited to staff performance evaluations, determining work assignments and scheduling, medical record documentation, completion of Resident Assessments and MDS, and other written and oral reports as required

4. Supports, evaluates, and implements written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing department

5, Maintains accurate staffing levels to meet resident care needs, including monitoring of over time

6, Provides oversight of, and maintain data related to, the Infection Control Management process

7. Assists with the planning, development, organization, implementation, and evaluation of nursing programs to ensure continuity of residents’ total regiment of care, in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines. Participates in pre-admission assessment data collection. Manage admissions, transfers, and discharge residents as required

8. Assists with the development and updating of care plans

9. Monitors, evaluates, and recommends process improvements to meet Community quality, safety, and risk management guidelines. Ensures compliance of reporting processes. Participates in Committee meetings as needed

10. Monitors and evaluates staff development needs including orientation, performance management, and leading of self-directed work teams

11. Monitors nursing practice to maintain a safe work environment, to ensure compliance with Community standards, state and federal regulations

12. Assists with in-service education of nursing staff

13. Participates in survey (inspections) made by authorized agencies

14. Participates in direct resident care when necessary

15 .May function in the capacity of the Director of Nursing and/or MDS Coordinator in their absence

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Current RN license in state of practice
  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing preferred
  • Must be CPR certified
  • One-year experience in Medicare in a Nursing home environment preferred
  • Must possess strong leadership skills and the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action; Must be knowledgeable and skilled in nursing medical practices and procedures with emphasis in the geriatric population; Must be familiar with current laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care; Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care and personal growth; Must maintain a high level of professionalism and willingness to handle difficult situations.
