Job Description Summary: 

The Corcoran School of the Arts and Design bridges George Washington University’s (GW) academically robust programs in the arts with Corcoran’s creative and inspired scholarship. Part of GW’s Columbian College of Arts and Sciences, the school functions as an incubator for artists and practitioners in arts-related fields and serves to enrich students who are taking classes in other areas of the university. As such, it provides a platform for engagement that bridges creative expression and practical application with the breadth and depth of the larger liberal arts education.

The Instructional Learning Assistant, 3D Sculpture position typically works closely with Corcoran studio staff and faculty to organize, assist, and facilitate studio maker access. The core responsibilities of this role are to assist the studio team with supporting a variety of equipment and processes that aid students, faculty, and staff, to use various operations to enhance instruction and to assist the team with applications of procedures and process-based expertise to increase the effectiveness and quality of studio usage.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Support staff with daily maintenance of equipment and software in all sculpture studios, including woodshop, ceramics, mold making, and digital fabrication, including 3d printing, laser cutting, and CNC cutting and milling.
  • Assist with project coordination to install and maintain equipment.
  • Support staff, faculty, and students by preparing and implementing facility and process policies.
  • Assist with safety protocols and training for studio spaces.
  • Participate in staff school-wide events such as orientation, NEXT, or graduation.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications: 

Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 1.5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Practicing knowledge or expertise in fine arts, sculpture, woodworking, ceramics, mold-making, and digital fabrication.
  • A positive, professional demeanor in all interactions with staff, faculty, administration, contractors, vendors, and the public.
  • Strong customer service orientation, attention to detail, and flexibility.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks with various departments within an institution.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, and video conferencing.

Typical Hiring Range $18.75 - $24.42 How is pay for new employees determined at GW?
