Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal Subsystems Design Engineer OR Senior Principal Subsystems Design Engineer. The selected candidate will perform Subsystems design support on ECS, Fuel, Powerplant, Landing Gear, Harness, and/or Hydraulic installations.

This position can be based in either Palmdale, CA or Oklahoma City, OK and will support a 1st shift 9/80 work schedule.

The selected candidate will become part of the B-2 Subsystems Design Engineering team within the Vehicle Engineering IPT. Responsibilities include:

  • Develop solutions to difficult problems that are thorough, imaginative, practical, and consistent with program objectives while keeping the statement of work and design requirements in focus.
  • Coordination and clear communication with other disciplines, customer, and suppliers during the development of design solutions.
  • Concise presentation and explanation of system design issues/solutions to internal management and customer representatives.
  • Development and review of completed models, drawings, and repairs for accuracy, clarity, and completeness. 
  • Evaluation of engineering products for conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications.

This position can be filled at either the Principal Subsystems Design Engineer OR Senior Principal Subsystems Design Engineer level, depending on the qualifications below.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Subsystems Design Engineer:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Civil, or other related discipline) from an ABET accredited institution and 5 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Civil, or other related discipline) with 3 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Civil, or other related discipline) with 0 years of related engineering experience.
  • Experience with a combination of ECS, Fuel, Powerplant, Landing Gear, Harness, and/or Hydraulic installations in military or commercial aircraft.
  • Proficient in use of CATIA V5 (2D and 3D) R26 (or higher) and Team Center (Unified and Enterprise).
  • Ability to develop 3D CATIA Product Models, parts, and assemblies.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret or Top Secret Clearance. This clearance must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Program Special access (SAP) within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Civil, or other related discipline) from an ABET accredited institution and 9 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Civil, or other related discipline) with 7 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Civil, or other related discipline) with 4 years of related engineering experience.
  • Experience with a combination of ECS, Fuel, Powerplant, Landing Gear, Harness, and/or Hydraulic installations in military or commercial aircraft.
  • Proficient in use of CATIA V5 (2D and 3D) R26 (or higher) and Team Center (Unified and Enterprise).
  • Ability to develop 3D CATIA Product Models, parts, and assemblies.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret or Top Secret Clearance. This clearance must be obtained within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Program Special access (SAP) within a reasonable amount of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs.

Preferred Qualifications for both levels:

  • Active Secret or Top Secret clearance.
  • 5 years or more of aerospace subsystems design experience using CATIA V5.
  • Experience working on Special Access Programs
  • Experience working on military aircraft

Salary Range: $79,800.00 - $146,300.00Salary Range 2: $99,000.00 - $181,300.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
