The Strategic Portfolio Management team, under the Portfolio Strategy & Program Execution team, supports the Northern Trust Wealth Management business unit through the administration, management, and governance of its financial and human resource investments and portfolio of work. As such, the team oversees processes designed to ensure strategic alignment across projects, investment decisions supported by robust business cases, insight and transparency into the portfolio of work, management of dependencies, achievement of outcomes, and accountability at all levels.

We are looking for an Associate Specialist to join the team to support the Strategic Portfolio Manager across a variety of areas including financial and human resource demand, business case development, and performance management. In this role, you will need to be analytical, action-oriented, a great communicator, and comfortable driving change through influence. You will be interacting with senior leadership across the Northern Trust organization to define and implement Wealth Management priorities with clear expected outcomes. The individual will work with Product teams, Technology partners, thought leadership Practice representatives, as well as Wealth Management and Northern Trust executive leadership, to foster an innovative and integrated environment to optimize portfolio investment and performance.

Major Duties

  • Manage and oversee multiple strategic processes including business case development, performance goal setting and management, and ROI/value realization framework
  • Coordinate & facilitate governance forums where potential projects present business cases for investment consideration. Facilitate completion of business cases by requesting teams.
  • Meet with WM leadership to gather, understand and maintain a future-focused initiative list to feed future QBRs and portfolio road mapping.
  • Coordinate and help prepare materials for WM quarterly capital requests from the Enterprise
  • Work with initiative owners across the portfolio to define overarching objectives & key results (OKRs). Actively maintain OKRs and create summary reporting, as needed.
  • Collaborate with the other members of the Strategic Portfolio Management team to maintain portfolio roadmap, tracking status of dependencies and key risks across the Wealth Management portfolio, resolving key issues as well as keeping up-to-date capital & financial tracking
  • Follow up with key stakeholders as needed and escalate potential issues to the Portfolio Manager. Create summary views of the project data as needed for various stakeholder needs.
  • Demonstrate proactive and persistent approach to work while driving open items to completion consistently and independently.

Experience Required

5-7+ years of experience comfortable with both tactical support and strategic thinking
