Nature of Work:

The CU College of Nursing is seeking a part-time (0.20 FTE), non-benefitted Academic Success Specialist within its Admissions and Student Affairs team. This position is responsible for offering English as an Additional Language support for all College of Nursing students, working with undergraduate students on a case-by-case basis for support meeting their academic goals, academic intervention program administration alongside the Academic Success Coach, and other academic success duties as assigned. 

Supervision Received:

This position reports directly to the Academic Success Coach.

Examples of Duties Performed: 

  • Serve as the College of Nursing’s resource for English Language Learning assistance by working with students to develop individualized lesson plans to target specific student needs for development.
  • Meet with undergraduate students in a 1:1 setting to support their academic goals, including time management, strategic learning and studying, and test-taking skills.
  • Serve as a professional academic resource for undergraduate students regarding Dosage tutoring and Medical Terminology support.
  • Proactively connect with students of concern throughout their CON enrollment to offer support.
  • Grow Academic Success’ digital presence via website, intranet, and Canvas additions, including the creation of self-paced enrichment courses.
  • Offer tools and personal learning opportunities to undergraduate students via the sharing of digital tools and hosting workshops.
  • Identify students needing additional academic support upon admission in the areas of writing support, science foundations, and English skills.
  • Provide early intervention and on-going support to incoming undergraduate students in the Writing and Science early start programs.
  • Work with CON Faculty to ensure students are supported as they work to achieve their academic goals.
  • Create new programs to facilitate student success alongside the Academic Success Coach.
  • Support the Academic Success Coach with ongoing team projects and programs.

Work Location:

Intermediate Level:

  • A bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, business, public administration, health care, educational technology, social science, liberal arts, communications, accounting, finance, library science, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • One (1) year of professional-level experience in academic advising, student support, mentoring, tutoring, and/or counseling.

Senior Level:

  • A bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, business, public administration, health care, educational technology, social science, liberal arts, communications, accounting, finance, library science, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor’s degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • Two (2) years of professional-level experience in academic advising, student support, mentoring, tutoring, and/or counseling.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications (All Levels):

  • Certification in English as an Additional Language instruction.
  • Experience with nursing-specific admissions practices and/or undergraduate nursing curriculum.
  • Experience working with a variety of constituents, including but not limited to faculty, division chairs, instructors, university staff, etc.
  • Experience advising and teaching students in traditional and online settings.

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this 0.40 FTE position has been established as: 

Entry Level - $8,518.20 to $10,835.20 (calculated for 0.2 FTE)

Intermediate Level - $9,269.80 to $11,791.20 (calculated for 0.2 FTE)

Senior Level - $10,021.40 to $12,747.40 (calculated for 0.2 FTE)
