About the Role

The Deputy Editor will develop editorial content in the comics and pop culture space. This is a major new initiative in an exciting sector. The successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to assist in shaping the editorial voice of a key new brand. They will support the team in establishing its style and values. They will also drive traffic, audience growth and membership subscriptions establishing the site as a global authority in pop culture and at ReedPop events.

Responsibilities

  • Working with the Editor-in-Chief to deliver the editorial voice and brand values for this new ReedPop initiative
  • Shaping the site into a significant and trusted voice in the pop culture space
  • Engaging with event teams to ensure relevant content is syndicated across all relevant properties
  • Identifying new growth opportunities for the site, both editorially and commercially
  • Delivering accurate, clear and concise copy to hourly, daily and weekly deadlines, following well-defined editorial standards
  • Engaging with freelance pool of best-in-the-business writers, and conceive, commission and edit writing from those writers within budget
  • Identifying the agenda-setting communities that can inform potential stories and content
  • Working closely with sales team to ideate and execute sponsored content campaigns

Requirements

  • Have previous experience editing or leading the direction of an entertainment website or magazine
  • Possess an understanding of the pop culture and the events business. Being able to identify which products perform, latest industry trends and key players in the market
  • Demonstrate an excellent work ethic, determination and drive
  • Have knowledge of how to construct pages and articles to attract an audience, including search and social platforms
  • Possess knowledge of the conversion tactics that will drive readers to become paying subscribers
  • Have an understanding of advanced analytics (including Google Analytics, Search Console, and Parse.ly)
  • Have experience in public speaking or live hosting. Will also be responsible for covering live pop culture events
