What to Expect

The Tesla’s Sensing Team is looking for a software/hardware testing and validation engineer with wide experience in testing embedded systems and validating both embedded software and hardware. The main responsibility of this role to lead the development of test equipment and software for Tesla Sensing SW and HW projects, working with cross functional teams to support products throughout their development lifecycle. The candidate should be able to use the first principles and optimal resources to come up with test strategies. The candidate is also expected to get their hands dirty in the details of their sub-systems and digging through source code, root causing issues and proposing solutions to complex problems, as well as testing prototype firmware implementations in-lab as well as in-vehicle.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and deploy both manual test procedures as well as automated testing based on system level requirements, functional specifications, and real-time performance data
  • Innovate, investigate, and implement infrastructure, tools, and processes to improve software robustness, quality, and reliability
  • Troubleshoot and root cause problems. Work with relevant people and teams to find resolutions and see solutions through to deployment
  • Test in a lab environment as well in the real setup such as car or robots
  • Coordinate with external vendors, contractors, and manufacturers to facilitate smooth operation and integration.
  • Develop novel solutions with efficient implementations for real world hard and unfamiliar problems while meeting project milestones
  • Develop and automate SW verification/validation involving building test suite from scratch to continuous regression using Matlab/Python/C and C++
  • Evaluate various existing and new sensor technologies for next generation sensor systems by bringing up prototype software and testing in lab

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering/Science, Information Science, Physics, or equivalent
  • Experience with Python test frameworks such as PyTest, Unittest, or similar
  • Proficiency with Python statistics libraries such as Pandas, Numpy, Scipy, or similar
  • Very good understanding of electrical engineering fundamentals including but not limited to electrical schematics, PCB layouts
  • Proficiency in using and developing for Linux
  • Very good lab experience doing testing and characterization using standard tools such as function generators, DMMs, Oscilloscopes, and specialized simulators and testers
  • Excellent knowledge of C/C++, Python, and MATLAB
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, TeamCity, or similar

Expected Compensation

$104,000 - $348,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
