Executive Director

Position Overview: The Executive Director of Residential Treatment provides leadership, direction, and operational oversight to ensure exceptional care and service for clients and families at our teen residential treatment facility in Crownsville.

Supervisor: Regional Operations Director, East Coast

Compensation: $100.000-130,000 Annual Salary (Dependent on Experience) 

Schedule: Monday to Friday + On Call Responsibility

As the executive director of our residential treatment facility, you will be responsible for overseeing and supporting all aspects and departments of programming, ensuring compliance with state laws and contractual obligations, managing the budget and financial functions, and fostering external relations and community affairs. You will also lead and participate in quality improvement and project management initiatives, and consult with other leaders and teams across the campus to optimize results and client satisfaction.

Education: Master’s in Behavioral Health, Counseling, Psychiatric Nursing, or other relevant degree

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an Executive level leadership position at a Behavioral Health facility with experience in youth substance use disorder (SUD) and/or mental health services treatment required.
  • Experience using relational, experiential, and trauma informed modalities.
  • Experience working and leading in a matrixed organization. Experience successfully working independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience recruiting and developing staff, and implementing progressive discipline as needed, in cooperation with the HR department.
  • Experience supporting and using process improvement or project management methodologies.

Training & Licensure

  • LMFT, LCSW-C, LCPC, LMHC, LPCC OR RN, OR APRN licensure required.

Skills, Knowledge, & Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of and experience in supervising clinical, medical, nursing, and behavioral tech operations is required.
  • Ability to engage and communicate effectively with people from diverse cultures and communities and from diverse groups. The ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally with other leaders on sensitive and/or emotional issues.
  • Skilled in organizing work in a responsible way in an environment with multiple challenges and priorities.
  • Ability to plan, implement, and adjust a course of treatment as required.
  • Ability to plan and execute a facility budget required.
  • Knowledge of state laws surrounding documentation, reporting, confidentiality, and working with government agencies and vendors required.
  • Broad strategic thinker, with a clear vision and direction of world class change management.
  • Excellent presentation skills with solid communication capabilities and practice, both oral and written. This includes the ability to strike the right tone and select the best medium of messaging.

  • Basic literacy in analyzing data and metrics gathered through basic B.I. tools and proficiency in using that information to inform and/or improve care delivery.
  • Formal training in lean and / or six sigma methodologies and a proven track record of application.

Facility Oversight

  • Oversees and supports all aspects and departments of programming including Clinical, Medical, Nursing, Technicians, and operations.
  • Monitors all mental health contracts and ensures fulfillment of contractual obligations.
  • Oversee operational contracts and services (Food services, environmental services, etc).

Fiscal Oversight

  • Provides periodic administrative reports based on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, fiscal reporting and others as required.
  • Managing budgeting, accounting, and financial functions to ensure that clinical operations are financially sound. Will attend biweekly nurse budget meeting.

External Relations & Community Affairs

  • Is the program liaison to all referring agencies including in and out of various county referral sources. Attends community meetings as needed and heads outreach efforts for youth including outreach with all surrounding counties.
  • Attends internal and external meetings as assigned by the Chief Operating Officer and Regional Director of Operations.
  • Handles public relations with neighbors and community stakeholders.

PI & Project Management

  • Stays informed of best practices in behavioral health and SUD treatment.
  • Identify, plan, and implement key projects to improve quality, reduce costs, increase productivity resulting in significant business improvement and client satisfaction.
  • Provide management with project status updates, feedback, and appropriate reporting on key responsibilities and objectives.
  • Consults with leaders and teams across the campus to identify, diagnose, and problem solve organizational development and effectiveness problems and solutions. Help to co-create team processes for optimizing results.

Compliance & Regulations

  • Conducts Environment of Care Rounds weekly with site leadership team and facilitates resolution of findings.
  • Keep track of standards and regulations to help ensure the organization complies with federal, state, and local laws and is up to date on accreditation policy and procedures.
  • Ensures that all personnel maintain all appropriate licensures/certifications to provide inpatient mental health services through federal and state requirements.

Client & Family Feedback

  • Leads customer service initiatives as identified by recurring themes, patterns and / or feedback from clients and families. Responsible for fielding and resolving parent or guardian complaints or issues.
  • Provides consultation and supervision to assigned employees.

Staffing & Engagement

  • Works with clinical and medical staff to maintain full schedules and manage client needs across departments.
  • Supports facility wide staff engagement strategies with site leaders.

Programming & Client Services

  • Plans for program development/expansion to meet emerging patient/community needs.
  • Coordinates direct patient care programs and activities for clients with and through clinical staff and site coordinator.
  • Defines, implements, and periodically reviews the philosophy, objectives, policies, procedures, and standards of client services being delivered.
  • Responsible for the ongoing design, implementation, and evaluation of the behavioral health program.
  • Ensure clinical services remain aligned with identified program models.
  • Regularly evaluates the quality and varieties of services provided by clinical services and provides feedback and innovative ideas for improvement.

  • Provides clinical supervision to provisionally licensed staff (where appropriate).
