The MR Clinical Science department is charged within the Business Innovation Unit MRI (BIU-MR) with the exploration and evaluation of new clinical applications by means of Magnetic Resonance technology. The clinical scientists play a crucial role in the upstream development of clinical, technological and solutions roadmaps. In close cooperation with the Product Applications teams and the Clinical Marketing team, the Clinical Science group forms the “clinical intelligence” and “clinical conscience” of the BIU-MR. Members of the Clinical Science department are collaborating with medical doctors and scientists of large, luminary hospitals globally in defined research projects. They are the experts on new clinical and technological applications in relation to customer needs, and present the MR innovations in Works-In-Progress lectures during commercial customer visits. We are currently looking for a MR clinical scientist for Cardiac applications. 

You are responsible for

  • Be the expert/MR specialist on the assigned clinical application area 
  • Keep up to date with innovations in MR technology and medical applications in area of clinical expertise, via scientific literature, symposia and international conferences 
  • Be actively involved in research projects, both in-house and in hospitals
  • Collaborates with medical doctors and physicists of Clinical Science sites in evaluating new clinical applications of MR, develop, document and maintain clinical roadmaps
  • Advise colleagues in R&D, Product Marketing and Applications on new technical and clinical developments, assist in writing commercial and technical documents 
  • Interacts with global Philips MR Clinical Scientists on site, provide first-line helpdesk support for research related questions for other Philips colleagues
  • Regularly visit Clinical Science research sites: discuss innovations with medical doctors, report on new developments, collect new marketing materials 

You are a part of

You will be working from the MR headquarters at the Philips Healthcare campus in Best, the Netherlands. You are part of the MR Clinical Science team (10 clinical scientists) in Best and part of the larger Philips MR clinical science group (65 clinical scientists globally). You will be reporting to the MR Clinical Science Director (Dr. Liesbeth Geerts), the next level manager is the Senior Director MR Clinical Science (Dr. Paul Folkers) who reports to the R&D Manager of the global Philips MR business. The BIU-MR is embedded in the Precision Diagnosis Group of Philips Healthcare. 

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • Ph.D. degree in physics, chemistry, biomedical engineering or other relevant technical background (candidates with M.Sc. degree in above mentioned areas, complemented with at least 5 years of relevant experience in MR might qualify based on individual skills and personality) 
  • Doctoral thesis or series of scientific publications on MR related topic 
  • Experience in a clinical environment (e.g. radiology or cardiology department) 
  • Foreign professional experience (e.g. post-doctoral fellowship) 
  • Proven writing and teaching skills 
  • Social skills (interaction with customers, other departments, sales organization) 
  • Highly communicative to members of multidisciplinary teams 
  • Strong analytical and experimental skills, independent problem solver 
  • Languages: fluent English in writing and speaking
  • Prepared for frequent traveling
