The Senior Analyst, Financial Reporting, is responsible for daily coordination of the preparation and review of sub-ledger system interfaces to general ledger and various key reconciliations, including intercompany and bank accounts. Ensuring that all month-end deadlines for SCI and other wholly-owned subsidiaries’ general ledger and closing procedures are met. Hands-on involvement in preparation and review of the income statement and Balance Sheet for its parent Bank (BNS) reporting. The incumbent provides financial and management reporting in accordance with requirements of IFRS, government and regulatory authorities – Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO). The incumbent also supervises one analyst and is responsible for the performance of the team on various financial information processing and analyses. 

The Bank’s monthly and quarterly reporting schedule – both for internal and external reporting, is very demanding. Overtime is often required to ensure that all deadlines for period-end deliverables are met.

Is this role right for you? In this role you will:

Take responsibility for statement of financial position and income statement reporting for Scotia Capital Inc. & other wholly owned subsidiaries of the Bank:

  • Compilation of income statement and balance sheet for Bank reporting and reconciliations
  • Responsible for ensuring proper allocation of non-interest and interest income for Bank reporting
  • Prepare various journal entries both in EGL and in PeopleSoft including, off-book P&L and balance sheet adjustments
  • Prepare monthly Cash Leadsheet and Intercompany Elimination working paper. Prepare intercompany IBA/ICA TAD reporting and liaise with various offsetting transits owners to investigate TAD variance to resolve any reconciliation differences
  • Support financial accounting and reporting functions for Cedar Leaf Capital Inc. (formally Project Moonlight) Work in close liaison with GBM Operations (GWO, Middle Office), Product Control team
  • Participate in ad-hoc projects 

Prepare financial statements for Regulatory and Statutory Financial Reporting Purposes

  • Prepare financial statements for Statement A as part of Monthly Financial Reporting (MFR) and Form 1 to Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization (CIRO) for regulatory reporting purpose and stand-alone consolidated financial statements for statutory reporting purpose
  • Prepare monthly summary of Earnings and Expenses (E&E report) for BNS reporting requirements
  • Prepare audit schedules, note disclosures and requests for management and audit review 
  • Prepare year end regulatory and working paper files for various regulators and external auditors
  • Liaise with auditors and Regulatory and Compliance department to complete the review process before being presented to the Board of Directors of SCI

Complete monthly reconciliation of general ledger accounts

  • Maintain and produce monthly reconciliations for assigned key control accounts and identify variances as required by Regulatory and Compliance department

Provide reliable financial information, analysis and other support required for departmental deadlines, senior management and audits

  • Identify potential impact of changes/initiatives and provide appropriate feedback or recommendation
  • Communicate with both internal and external auditors to explain various procedures and respond to queries

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role? We'd love to work with you if you have:

  • Equivalent of an university degree and an accounting designation along with several years of working experience in an investment or financial institution industry
  • Solid background in accounting is essential to comprehend, interpret and compile complex projects, together with proven organizational skills
  • Ability to adapt to a number of conflicting deadlines and quickly grasp and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate (written and verbal) across variety levels of management, both internal and external
  • Strong PC skills and working knowledge of the various operating systems used in the day-to-day operations of a Finance Department (PeopleSoft Financials, Broadridge, OBI, SmartView, Excel, Microsoft Office)
  • High level of mental effort is required with medium amount of non-routine functions
