Postdoctoral positions Single-Molecule Sequencing and Analysis with Nanopores (1.0 fte)
Vacancy number 217228-30
Founded in 1614, the University of Groningen enjoys an international reputation as a dynamic and innovative institution of higher education offering high-quality teaching and research. Flexible study programmes and academic career opportunities in a wide variety of disciplines encourage the 30,000 students and researchers alike to develop their own individual talents. As one of the best research universities in Europe, the University of Groningen has joined forces with other top universities and networks worldwide to become a truly global centre of knowledge.
Three postdoctoral positions are available in the laboratory of Prof. Giovanni Maglia in the department of Chemistry and Biotechnology of the University of Groningen, The Netherlands.
Biological nanopores are an exciting new class of biosensors, which found practical application in single-molecule proteins analysis, protein sequencing and small molecule bio-sensing.
In the framework of an ERC consolidator grant awarded by the European Research Council, we have several projects in our laboratory that focus on the design and engineering of nanopores to identify specific features in single-molecules.
The candidate will hold a PhD in Chemistry or Biochemistry and will have experience in protein engineering and molecular cloning. The candidate will be involved in proteins sequencing with nanopore, de-novo nanopore design or non-invasive small molecule bio-sensing.
The candidate should hold a PhD Degree in Chemical Biology, Biochemistry or Biotechnology or equivalent.
Expertise in molecular biology (recombinant DNA techniques, protein expression and purification), chemical modification of proteins or peptides are required for this position. Knowledge of MD simulations will be an advantage.
Conditions of employment
The University of Groningen offers a salary dependent on qualifications and work experience of € 2,588 gross per month up to a maximum of € 4,084 gross per month (salary scale 10 Dutch Universities) for a full-time job. This position is defined according to the UFO function profile 'researcher 4'. The appointment is temporary for a period of two years with the perspective of prolongation with two additional years.
