Forschungszentrum Jülich - FZJ - Helmholtz Association has flagged the Instrument Scientist Neutron Cold TAS Panda, Postdoc in Physics or Physical Chemistry job as unavailable. Let’s keep looking.

The Position

We are looking for a talented scientist with strong expertise in protein chemistry and molecular biology for high-sensitive immunoassay development.

Your position and department:

Your new position will be located in the chapter “Antibody and Protein Technologies” which is part of the R&D Chapter Area “Reagent Research and Design (RRD)” within Roche Diagnostics.

With your expertise you will join a highly interdisciplinary team comprising several work streams under a large-scale research initiative/ flagship program. You will be working on innovative and state of the art reagent design for improvement of current protein detection technologies and evaluation of new technologies for diagnostic solutions.

Our highly collaborative way of working will ensure you get to know/connect to different working groups and functions within our organization and get the chance for personal development by exchanging knowledge and open discussions.

The RDG postdoc position is shared between the department of Antibody development and Protein chemistry.

Your work will focus on the following aspects:

  • You develop and optimize assay reagents, like antibody conjugation by both site specific and non-site specific approaches. Purification and analytical characterization of these conjugates.
  • You set up and evaluate technologies involving (DNA-assisted) immunoassays for high-sensitivity protein detection.
  • You optimize protein detection analyses and respective technologies further. This includes e.g. assay sensitivity and sample multiplexing for NGS-based readouts.
  • You are responsible to plan and conduct experiments and projects in a self-contained manner, yet operate with a high level of team spirit towards one joint goal.
  • You will manage the assigned work-packages independently and present/discuss the project results regularly across stakeholders/ workstreams.
  • The job position demands willingness to familiarize with rapidly changing contents associated with continued development and optimization of current assay setups and reagent design (?).
  • You closely follow the current literature in fields connected to your project-focus.(?)

Who you are:

  • You are a candidate who wants to influence your own development. You are looking for a company offering the opportunity to pursue your interests across functions and geographies. Where a job title is not considered the final definition of who you are, but the starting point.
  • You have more than 3 years of practical experience in protein chemistry/ molecular biological methods and you have successfully completed a PhD in this area.
  • You are experienced in conjugating protein/antibodies by various methods (NHS, Maleimide thiol chemistry, Click reaction) and purification strategies (gel filtration, ion exchange chromatography).
  • You have a fundamental understanding of NGS and multiplex sequencing as well as knowledge and hands-on experience in (immuno)-assays for protein detection/quantification and nucleic acid based techniques like qPCR.
  • You are curious and open to new ideas. You are not afraid of thinking outside the box.
  • You convince us with your reliability, diligence and accuracy as well as strong analytical and solution-oriented thinking.
  • You enjoy working in a team, show intercultural competence and are fluent in spoken and written English.
  • You are highly motivated to make a productive contribution in a dynamic, innovative and leading development area.

This position will be filled with effect early summer 2024 and is limited to 2 years.
