Job Description

As a Mechanical Project Engineer in the project team, you will be responsible to provide high quality engineering services and specifications for the Planning, Design, Construction, Start-up, and Commissioning of your discipline specific Facilities systems in support of the project.

You will participate in Project Design and Scope Development, Documentation, and Control Change, Vendor Selection, Project Tendering, and onsite Discipline Project Safety, Coordination and Execution for your discipline.

The candidate will have a minimum of 10+ years of experience managing MEP projects, with a proven track record of successful project delivery. He or she will have a strong working knowledge of all aspects of Mechanical systems and be able to effectively communicate with all project stakeholders.

Responsibilities and Tasks

Project Team Discipline Lead

  • Provide input and support to the Project Manager during the development of BDC Procedures (Project Execution Plan and Construction execution plan).
  • Coordinate with GFC, Local Project Team, Vendors, AE, GC etc. to ensure successful project completion.
  • Meeting regularly with all stakeholders (GFC, end users, operations, project, contractors, vendors, etc.) to discuss project progress and issues that may arise during the project execution.
  • Track, Prepare and Report progress weekly on Project progress, risk, schedule, cost for Discipline. Overseeing the project team’s work to ensure that they meet deadlines and milestones. 
  • Ensure all Project scope is executed to Safety Standards and requirements. Review all Job plans for high risk during construction in discipline related areas /scope.
  • Review of project documents for compliance with company standards and procedures to ensure that they meet requirements and specifications. 
  • Identification and resolution of project issues and risks
  • Providing technical expertise and experience where needed to solve complex problems
  • Monitoring changes in legislation and industry trends to ensure that projects are up to date with best practices
  • Management Discipline Scope Change Process and documentation.
  • Provide Project Procurement Technical Support
  • Oversee Disciplines installation Q&A assurance and Testing and Commissioning Activities.
  • Coordinate and Lead Project Closeout activities for Discipline; Punch listing and verification, Documentation and System Handover.
  • Conducting of project meetings and site visits
  • Managing Design & Construction vendors and Gas Plant Supplier to ensure that they meet deadlines and deliver high-quality products or services according to specifications
  • Managing conflict among team members to ensure that all parties are collaborating well with each other towards the common goals/ objectives. 
  • Ensure successful delivery of seamless facility commissioning and turnover process that focuses on the end user (i.e. the Operations & Maintenance).
  • Manage review and approve commissioning file for each systems & equipment’s which includes Method Statements, single line diagram, site instructions, deviation list, various tests, equipment datasheet & specification, relay setting calculations, etc
  • Manage Site acceptance testing (SAT) witness and certification process for all equipment and systems. Reviewing functional test data for evidencing compliance with performance specifications and other standards. Reporting on testing and inspection results and coordinating for Engineer/ consultant’s sign off /certification of the relevant systems/sub systems as applicable.
  • Coordinate with the Construction manager(s), Engineers, Project Manager, AE ,and GC for Inspection of respective systems /subsystem’s and documentations of functional testing record sheet for disciplines.
  • Coordinate with GC for schedule of GC attendance at site for critical equipment, complex system packages and monitoring the GC presence as per schedule to be prepared and agreed during project execution.
  • Development of relationships with internal and external customers and organizations.
  • SIPP document check and review.
  • Coordinate Mechanical-related BIM model, and inspect any
  • BIM section
  • Control the schedule and quality of discipline BIM model.
  • Responsible for reviewing the discipline BIM models to find and track clash, space management issues.
  • Responsible for coordination of the BIM models to identify clashes with other disciplines.
  • Consolidate client queries and help to coordinate with GC to resolve the issues.
  • Ensure that all issues and clashes are resolved before GC produces shop drawings.
  • Ensure the GC shop drawing is aligned with BIM model.
  • Ensure GC has used BIM models for constructability studies prior to development of shop drawings.
  • Ensure space management done with BDC operations team input.
  • Ensure coordinated models are used to help identify EHS issues with all EHS team member input.
  • Ensure the construction is consistent with as-built model.
  • Ensure the required BDC parameters are filled in by the GC.
  • Collect clash numbers for consolidation and reporting to BDC on a weekly basis.

Mechanical engineer needs the following skills: 

  • Communication: As a Mechanical engineer, you will be responsible for communicating with a variety of stakeholders, including clients, team members and suppliers. Effective communication to convey important information, answer questions and resolve issues. 
  • Organized: Being organized to help a Project Manager save time, as they can more easily find the information they need or the files they need to access. 
  • Time management: Ensure that each task is completed on time and within budget. 
  • Problem-solving: As a Mechanical engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the entire project, which means you need to be able to identify potential issues and develop solutions to overcome them. For example, if a supplier is unable to deliver the materials needed for a project, you may be able to develop a plan to continue the project. 
  • Leadership: As a Mechanical engineer, you can use your leadership skills to help your team work together to complete projects on time and within budget. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering required, Master’s Degree desired.
  • Minimum 10 year experience in Mechanical Engineering with a focus on Design and Construction of Data Centre or Hi-Tech Mechanical Systems
  • Proven track record of successful project delivery 
  • Ability to prioritize and schedule workload and work on multiple tasks concurrently
  • Good organizational skills and Service attitude
  • Excellent communication skills and good team working skills, English required
  • Self-motivated worker
  • Familiarity with Data Centre facilities systems, and power supply infrastructure.
  • Strong ability in English speaking and writing, be able to communicate with English speaking engineers both verbally and by writing.
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit and Microsoft Project 
  • Thorough understanding of building codes and standards
