Duties and Responsibilities

Background: The 2 positions will be located in the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s office for Yemen in Sana’a and Aden to support the strategic reset of mine action operations in Yemen. Duties and Responsibilities: • Facilitate and support coordination and liaison with national and international mine action stakeholders, including authorities, international organizations, and donors. • Facilitate and support coordination with relevant UN agencies, INGOs and Local NGOs to ensure complementarity and synergies among mine action related interventions. • Support the planning, quality management and implementation of field visits, meetings, and workshops. • Support information management, including Mine Action information management, documentation of meeting minutes, key decisions, and actions. • Support monitoring and evaluation, including the documentation of lessons learned and major outcomes. • Support briefings to donors, and reporting. • Support resource mobilization efforts. • Translate documents as necessary from English to Arabic and vice versa. • Support in interpretation during meetings with local authorities and local communities. • Perform any other duties, as necessary.

Qualifications/special skills

A first level university degree in business or public administration, or any other related area. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of 5 years of professional work experience in the mine action sector in Yemen is required. A minimum of 3 years of professional work experience in programme or project management is required. A minimum of 3 years of direct experience in engaging and influencing government officials in a complex humanitarian setting is desirable. Experience in resource mobilization is desirable.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in oral and written English is required. Fluency in oral and written and Arabic is required. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
