Job Description

The opportunity

John Hancock is in the midst of transforming our Long Term Care business to help our customers age in place and receive the care that they need. This team focuses on providing access to high-quality and affordable long-term care providers to our customers when they need it.

The LTC Preferred Provider Sr. Product Owner will be focused on supporting the execution of our long-term care preferred provider strategy and building our Provider capability to better support our Providers. The LTC Preferred Provider Sr. Product Owner will act as the voice of the business and the voice of the customer, representing and driving business needs across multiple delivery teams to ensure business and end-user satisfaction. 

This role helps define and contribute to the realization of the Preferred Provider Network strategy, vision, and key results (defined by OKRs) by aligning and prioritizing business goals and key activities to achieve key results.

  • Brings a senior level strategic view to manage tactical delivery of key activities, aligned to the LTC Customer Care Transformation
  • Drives the strategy, planning and delivery of key capabilities for Long Term Care Providers
  • Collaborates closely with business stakeholders and third-party partners to achieve business priorities & initiatives

How will you create impact?

You will report directly into the Head of the Preferred Provider Network. This role is critical in enabling us to transform how we engage with our Providers and help our customers receive the care that they need.

Key Accountabilities

The Senior Product Owner's primary responsibilities can be divided into three categories and may cross multiple squads. This may have direct reports and provides management and career development for one or more Product Owner(s). 

Individual Accountabilities: 

  • Responsible for business outcomes in alignment with segment/global priorities for the Long Term Customer Care Transformation
  • Acts as the voice of the business and voice of the customer within the squad(s) to ensure business and end-user satisfaction
  • Drives prioritization decisions, in partnership with the business, to enable team to deliver business outcomes
  • Maintains a firm understanding of business, customer, and end-user pain points, needs, and preferences
  • Maintains a firm understanding of relevant personas and customer journeys in order to advocate for the ideal experience
  • Monitors industry, competitive and general business trends to enable strategic planning and delivery of outcomes in alignment with segment priorities
  • Works as the “customer proxy” and consistently applies to customer lens to solutions
  • Ensures the voice of the customer/partner is prominent and accurate in the definition of user stories

Value/Backlog Management

  • Drives the strategy, planning and delivery of key capabilities aligned to the customer journey, including features
  • Translation of objectives and strategy to the team for tactical delivery
  • Primarily leads the squad(s) in ensuring value creation for the business, customers, and end-users by owning the squad backlog and ensuring that the highest value work is always being executed
  • Work with squad(s) to define hypotheses, run experiments (surveys, concept testing, analytics tools, A/B testing), and analyze data to make decisions on user stories that influence the direction of delivery
  • Builds and grooms the user story backlog for one or more squads (prioritizing based on value)
  • Ensures the backlog is visible, clear and understood by all squad members
  • Incorporates feedback from partner demos, interviews, user research, and engineering into the squad backlog
  • Accepts the work outputs (i.e. completed user stories) of the squad by ensuring all stories meet the definition of done

Squad Alignment & Communication

  • Provides strategic team leadership in managing delivery of business outcome-focused work
  • Brings coaching mindset to agile practices and product content knowledge
  • Specify and effectively communicate desired outcomes for current and future capabilities
  • Leads or assists in demonstrations of the squad’s outputs (i.e. working software)
  • Reviews and contributes to the value stream roadmap
  • Drafts the squad’s specific objectives and key results (OKRs) in alignment with those of the Preferred Provider Strategy

What we are looking for

  • Curious and data-driven individual who focuses on outcomes vs. output
  • Strong level of Long-term care or healthcare knowledge and experience, especially in the area of working with or for providers
  • Experience building digital capabilities such as finding providers and claims management
  • Strong epic and user story requirement gathering and documentation
  • Understand flow of work from intake to release with an eye toward optimizing squad work in progress, clearly communicating priorities for upcoming work, and maintaining alignment to OKRs
  • Solid coaching mindset and abilities, enabling team members in defining solutions, and delivering to outcomes
  • Engagement of squad members to collaborate, promote ownership and accountability of tasks, and maintain continuous improvement mindset
  • Partner management and communication skills in defining outcomes, communicating progress, and facilitating planning meetings
  • Strong knowledge of the business, with previous, active role as a Product Owner/Manager strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of digital enterprise enablement technologies and practices
  • Minimum of 4+ years of experience in a business role

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Boston, Massachusetts

Salary range is expected to be between

$86,325.00 USD - $155,385.00 USD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
