Senior, Climate Change and Sustainability Services (CCaSS)

EY creates an opportunity for experienced specialists to join Climate Change and Sustainability Services (CCaSS) team of EY Baku Office. We are actively developing services in the field of non-financial reporting and assurance services as well as providing sustainability/ESG advisory services to businesses to be compliant with local legislation and international standards in environmental performance, labor practices, occupational health and safety, social investment, supply chain, etc., considering the needs and expectations of businesses and their wider stakeholder community. At the same time, we work with governmental institutions to strengthen the legislation, develop, and implement required initiatives, policy and programs aimed at improving the sustainability landscape in the country.

As part of the CCaSS team, you will be actively involved in the research, analysis, and consulting on sustainability/ESG strategies in line with the leading industry practice as well as the local and international regulations and reporting frameworks. You will also assist in the development and/or customization of practical approaches tailored to the clients’ economic, social, and environmental needs. You will explore the factors driving business performance, assess risk and apply critical thinking, and in the process, become a more connected, responsive, and insightful professional.

Your key responsibilities

As a CCaSS team-member, you will be expected to ensure that all the required work output is delivered in a timely manner in line with or exceeding the key performance expectations assigned for you position. The tasks include research, analysis, and consulting of sustainability/ESG policies and strategies for companies in line with the leading industry practice and tightening local and international regulations and frameworks. You will also participate in the development of sustainability related advisory projects, as well as preparation and assurance of the public non-financial reports. Moreover, having excellent English report writing and business communication skills as well as critical analysis and analytical thinking is preferrable.

Skills and attributes for success

As Senior Consultant within the team, you will be exposed to a range of analytical and advisory work in direct exchange with our clients. Your competencies should allow you to do the following:

  • Participating in the identification and analysis of the clients’ sustainability risks;
  • Analyzing major client documentation on sustainability, environmental, occupational health and safety performance, corporate governance and reporting as well as linking these with the best practices;
  • Constructing analytical conclusions and recommendations for clients applying critical thinking;
  • Developing presentations and training materials and delivering the content to the clients and other stakeholders;
  • Conducting desk research such as market and/or policy research, business process analysis to identify gaps and points for improvement which can be remediated for increased performance of our clients and their stakeholders;
  • Developing formal correspondence with clients and preparing the required project documentation in compliance with the internal procedures;
  • Developing and maintaining productive working relationships with the client personnel;
  • Demonstrating an understanding of the workplace policies and procedures;
  • Working effectively as part of the team including the following:
  • delegating tasks in a clear and direct manner;
  • maintaining contact with and supporting other EY regional teams in regional projects;
  • demonstrating leadership skills towards more junior team members while providing them with support and maintaining positive communication with other team members;
  • proving ability to manage multiple deliverables in parallel projects; showing strong problem-solving skills

To qualify for the role, you must have

We welcome applicants from a wide range of backgrounds, but are particularly interested in individuals that have the following qualifications:

  • A completed Bachelors or Master’s degree in the Environmental Studies, Energy, Economics, Business Administration/Business Consulting, Banking and Financial Management, Accounting and Finance, Engineering, Social Sciences, or related fields of study;
  • At least 3 years of working experience within sustainability, ideally focusing on resource efficiency, energy audits, air emissions inventory and management, occupational health and safety, CSR within sectors such as energy, utilities, transportation, sustainable finance and banking or other related sectors;
  • Experience in the projects on non-financial and/or integrated reporting, assurance of non-financial, ESG data or as external time-based assignment consultant;
  • Excellent knowledge of SDGs, GHG accounting, carbon footprint and lifecycle analysis;
  • Excellent and professional written and verbal knowledge of English, Azerbaijani (working level knowledge of Russian is a plus);
  • Growth mindset with a pragmatic approach to problem solving, dynamic working style, well organized and structured;
  • A demonstrated capacity to take initiative, overcome challenges and work collaboratively through relevant work or project experience;
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, including development of internal and client presentations and other working files;
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Power Point), quantitative and qualitative data analysis and visualization skills.

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Certification and/or proven work experience as one of the following: Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) practitioner, Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) (FSA) credential holder, IPCC Guidelines for National Greenhouse Gas Inventories, GHG Protocol;
  • Ability to quickly adapt to the new environment and work with multinational teams and clients;
  • Effective time management and planning skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure and in short timeframes and maintain the can-do attitude;
  • Ability to travel.
