Job Description

Justification: 

DBTT China is building local software development capability initially for GM China Premium Imports program, and in needs of a strong data engineer to build the data relevant technical knowledge and execution capability in China. 

Main Purpose of this position 

The data Engineer is responsible for translating business requirements into technology requirements and defining data standards and principles. This position will be creating, developing, and designing data strategy, architectures, and roadmaps for GMPI (General Motors Premier Import) program. The output of this position will support GMPI in data analytics, ML, system development and integrations. In addition, this position shall assume responsibility for defining overall policies and procedures considering legal and government regulatory frameworks and contractual constraints, as well as designing countermeasures to address risks. 

Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Quickly develop understanding of GM Premier Import (GMPI) business, software strategy, and platforms. 
  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of complex and scalable data architectures and pipelines. 
  • Collaborate closely with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand advanced data requirements and implement sophisticated solutions. 
  • Design and implement strategies for data governance, security, and compliance, ensuring the highest standards of data accessibility, reliability, quality, and integrity. 
  • Evaluate and implement emerging technologies and tools to enhance the organization's data capabilities. 
  • Develop and implement best practices for data engineering, including coding standards, automation, and documentation. 
  • Architect, develop, and optimize data storage solutions, including data warehouses, lakes, and real-time processing systems. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate data from various sources and systems, ensuring seamless data flow across the organization. 
  • Contribute to troubleshoot and optimize existing data infrastructure and processes for performance and reliability. 
  • Stay informed on industry trends and advancements, providing thought leadership and strategic insights on data engineering best practices. 
  • Integrate technical functionality (e.g., Scalability, security, performance, data recovery, reliability, etc.) and prepare reports where needed. 
  • Establish procedures, processes, and perform inventory around data assets. 
  • Champion accountability within and outside the team and coordinate dependencies across teams 

Additional Job Description

Required Qualifications and Experience 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. 
  • Proven 7 years+ (Including at college) high proficiency in designing and engineering large-scale data analytical architecture; including data modeling, storage design and optimization, building ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, data pipelines, data management and integration 
  • Proficient with RDBMS and NoSQL technologies, such as Oracle, MySQL, MongoDB, Hadoop/Hive/Spark/Flink and other database modeling and management tools. Proficient in using SQL, Hive SQL, Spark SQL, etc. for data warehouse development. 
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems architectures and micro-service architecture. Experience with developing software in one or more programming languages, such as: Python, C++, C#, Java, Shell Scripting etc. 
  • Data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI. 
  • Modern analytics data architectures including cloud native, microservices architecture, virtualization, orchestration, and containerization. 
  • Design ingestion layer solution with both batch process and event streaming capability, proven expertise in data storage layer modern technology such as Lakehouse architecture. 
  • Knowledge in data warehouse versus data lake Experience with data platform development on virtual on-premises cloud provided by Amazon Web Service (AWS), Google Cloud, Azure, or others. 
  • Familiar with Linux and Windows, familiar with CI/CD tools and processes. 
  • Understand country/region regulatory cross-border data requirements and methods for compliance. 
  • Facilitate technology strategy, requirements, and architecture conversations with all stakeholders (management, business users, and technology resources) through exceptional collaboration, listening, written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Creative and systematic problem-solver with root cause and detail focusing. 
  • Sense of ownership and drive for result and solutions 
  • Ability to think strategically about technical challenges, business requirements, and solution. 
  • Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and be willing to embrace change 
  • Good interpersonal skills, effective Communication and Presentation skills in both English and Chinese, especially on business problems, alternatives and project strategy to a project team and customer groups. 

Pluses 

  • Databricks hands-on experience is a strong plus. 
  • Azure cloud data solution experience is a strong plus. 
  • Leadership skills with the ability to mentor and guide junior data engineers.
