Job Description

In a time of unprecedented expansion, we are seeking a Manufacturing Engineer, Furniture (North Vietnam) to collaborate with contract manufacturing partners, Lakeshore’s own Research, Design & Development team and sourcing partners to ensure the successful development and production of furniture products. In this role, you will also support RCCA projects and troubleshoot manufacturing or quality issues as they arise. The ideal candidate has experience and expertise in furniture products, materials and manufacturing, as well as excellent troubleshooting skills. Applicants also should have experience with CAD drawings, BOM, specs and tolerances. 

A day in the office looks like this: 

  • Provide design for manufacturing feedback to U.S.A. Design & Quality Engineering team, ensuring quality, safety, aesthetic, durability and cost-effectiveness 
  • Communicate design and performance expectations to vendors to ensure successful product quality outcomes and communicate test plan expectations to the vendor 
  • Support product development phases to ensure product meets requirements 
  • Own and drive preproduction and production phase to ensure product meets requirements 
  • Collaborate with vendors to develop manufacturing processes, tooling and techniques to ensure consistent and efficient product execution 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in Asia and U.S.A. 
  • Clearly articulate status and progress of projects to Asia leadership and U.S.-based cross-functional teams 
  • Partner with U.S. engineering to execute DFMA and manufacturing feasibility 
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with multiple internal and external partners 
  • Problem-solve inefficiencies in design and engineering processes 
  • Provide detailed responses to product and technical requests 
  • Act as the Lakeshore “engineering voice” to vendors 
  • Drive root-cause corrective action as issues arise 

Qualifications

Got the skills and experience? Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field required 
  • 5+ years minimum engineering/design experience required 
  • 8+ years engineering/design experience preferred 
  • Extensive experience with all furniture products, materials and manufacturing processes; some plastics and soft goods experience preferred 
  • Good presentation skills with the ability to simplify complex concepts to drive decision-making 
  • Excellent attention to detail 
  • Rich experience with managing new product development from A to Z; familiarity with engineering stage-gates such as EP, FEP, Golden Samples, PPS and PSS 
  • Practical knowledge of Design for Manufacturing process
