Job Description:

The Department of African & African American Studies (AAAS) in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, seeks a scholar of African Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 2024 for a nine-month, tenure-track position. All regions and time periods will be considered for research specializations, but we are particularly interested in scholars who have expertise in African and African Diaspora Intellectual Thought and Literature. Teaching responsibilities include existing undergraduate courses, such as Contemporary Africa, African Literature, African Diaspora Intellectual Thought, and developing undergraduate and graduate courses in their areas of specialization. 

A comprehensive, doctoral, high-research activity university situated in the Capitol City, Louisiana State University enrolls over 30,000 students and offers the opportunity for undergraduates to major or minor in African & African American Studies and graduate students from any of the university’s graduate programs to purse a Graduate Minor in Africana Studies. 

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in African Studies, Africana Diasporic Studies, or a related field. An offer of employment is contingent on a satisfactory pre-employment background check.
