About the role

The ETL ADMINISTRATOR may be an experienced individual contributor but will also play a leadership role on smaller initiatives and projects supervising other Software Engineers and may be a Subject Matter Expert in their specialized field. The ETL ADMINISTRATOR will pair with other DataOps Engineers, Leads, and Architects to design, build, test and deploy automation solutions in CICD space .

The role will involve:

  • Analysing and improving the ETL Data Integration standards, patterns and processes.
  • Optimizing performance and improving efficiency through automation, monitoring and mentoring.
  • Supporting, maintaining and developing the automation solutions to maintain the infrastructure and ETL ecosystem

ED&AI DataOps team will support the R&D IT and Enabling Units IT which are global IT capabilities supporting drug research, drug development, Global Product & Portfolio Strategy, Global Medical Affairs, Finance, HR, Compliance, Legal and Global Business Services. They are organized around 7 key capability areas: Business Partnering, Solution Delivery, Architecture, Application Support, Data & Analytics, Change & Operations. They operate out of sites across the US, UK, Sweden, India and Mexico.

ED&AI DataOps Process and Transform are cross-functional teams between R&D IT and Enabling Units IT that provides analytics, data insight services and solutions critical to the mission of AstraZeneca. ED&AI DataOps is organized into teams specialising in: Information Architecture, Data Engineering, Visual Engineering, Knowledge Management, Data Science, Data Analysis and Information Governance.

We are recruiting for engineers to be based at our GITC site - Chennai. As an engineer you will support solution development, provide technical leadership, and take responsibility for delivery. You are a T-shaped engineer, a person with a broad range of knowledge and experience across ETL Ecosystem and Automations, with significant depth in knowledge ETL Data Integration tool. You will work almost exclusively on our cloud data platforms.

You will join a team that is providing support across different ETL tool sets like TALEND, Qlik Replicate, Informatica Power Center and DBT. Similarly, we have built an automated ETL test harness which integrates with our evolving CI/CD processes. We have a significant backlog of work, so you might be supporting the development and maintenance of the Automation scripts developed in Groovy for CICD and Ansible for infrastructure and ETL Service.

You'll be part of a team of engineers who work closely with IT colleagues in Cambridge and Guadalajara. You'll need to provide Technical support to applications on trouble shooting Environment, software and application level issues. We have business partners and team members spread globally, so you would need a collaborative delivery approach to be successful. We prefer to use Agile, but choose the appropriate approach for the project.

What you’ll do

You will join a team of ETL expertise that is providing support across 100 plus projects and 300 plus developers are working in the ecosystem.

  • We are looking out for a talented ETL ADMIN/SUPPORT to be part of our DataOps Platform and Transform capability, the aim of which is the rapid development and continued support of reliably performing production software platforms.
  • We need a self-motivated individual who can work alongside multiple development teams to oversee the database design and development in a variety of projects.This individual will work in an agile way with on-shore project development teams, including the on-shore BI engineers and analysts, business sponsors and solution architects to support the team.
  • Technical support to applications on trouble shooting Environment, software and application level issues. We have business partners and team members spread globally, so you would need a collaborative delivery approach to be successful.
  • A person with a broad range of knowledge and experience across ETL Ecosystem and Automations, with significant depth in knowledge ETL Data Integration tool. Take ownership of our evolving CI/CD processes.
  • You would be supporting the development and maintenance of the Automation scripts developed in Groovy for CICD and Ansible for infrastructure and ETL Service with Hands-on experience working on AWS cloud platform.

Highlight the skills and capabilities needed

Essential for the role

  • Administering the ETL Platform including:
  • Configuration and Licensing
  • User Management
  • Project Creation (including Bitbucket repositories)
  • Job Server and Job management
  • Managing of Software Updates/Patches
  • Major version migration
  • 6+ year administering Enterprise ETL platforms and working with ETL Data Integration in an enterprise scale environment.
  • Technical support to applications on trouble shooting Environment, software and application level issues
  • Knowledge and experience of working on Unix shell scripting or python script.
  • Experience troubleshooting or debugging on Linux server is required.
  • Knowledge and experience on AWS Cloud ecosystem.
  • ETL License Management.
  • Design and Code Reviews.
  • Aiding in the establishment of team development best practices.
  • Data warehousing and database design concepts.
  • Prior experience of Migration and Patching activity.

Desirable for the role

  • Maintain and develop CI/CD pipeline using groovy scripts.
  • Maintain and develop Ansible scripts for ETL service and infrastructure management.
  • Design and Develop tools to standardize and automate monitoring , application support activities.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team to achieve objectives.
  • A self-starter with high levels of drive, energy and resilience.
  • Willing to be involved in all areas of deployment process including testing and release planning.
  • Eager to learn and develop new tech skills as required.
