SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Lead Technical Trainer- T&D Electric Traction, under the guidance of the Manager of Training and Development, is responsible for planning, monitoring, developing, and delivering training to Electric Traction Substation personnel within the New York territory well as other programs as assigned. This position is required to successfully plan and execute all instructional sessions in order to provide each employee with a full understanding and knowledge to comply with company policies, federal and state laws. When necessary, confers with System ET management and staff to determine training needs, regulatory compliance, guidance, and interpretation of regulatory rules. This role supports the organization by ensuring awareness of Amtrak’s safety and security policy by providing clear instruction of new and revised policies & procedures for the Engineering Department as well as other departments as needed on instructions of material such as but not limited to AMT II, EPS, SOIs, Fall Protection, etc. Compliance to federal and state regulations (CFR, OSHA, ANSI) by maintaining training records and performance assessments for those trained through assigned programs. Bridges gap between instructor and leadership with peer-to-peer mentorship and coaching.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Training delivery & development - Assess training needs and certification requirements by developing and delivering training according to established instructional standards, programs, and methods. Provides guidance and interpretation of all regulatory rules and practices.
  • Maintenance of Training Records - Responsible for the efficient and accurate management of all training records and the enrollment process of the training program. Enters participant’s personal and test data into Amtrak’s learning management system.
  • Facilitates all activities related to the delivery of training – arrangement and preparation of materials, classrooms, and equipment, as well as administrative requirements. Organizes and schedules classes, procures materials, and coordinates and communicates with interested parties to ensure participation.
  • Project Management - Functions as a project leader and subject matter expert in the development of various content areas for training programs.
  • Coaching & Mentoring - Mentor other instructors in the subject matter, content, and course delivery techniques for assigned technical courses. Provides mentoring, leadership and supervision in the training and performance of training employees.
  • The bulk of the time will be spent in Training Delivery and Development.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering or transportation (or related field) or equivalent combination of training, education, and relevant experience
  • Experience in the Electric Traction Department as a qualified Class A substation employee or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience
  • Must possess or be willing to acquire certifications for the following within 6 months from acceptance of position: Mid-Atlantic South Substation Territory, RWP, AMT-2 Class A Qualification
  • Subject Matter Expert in primary training area with ability to assist other program as needed
  • Able to effectively deliver training in assigned training material
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent decision making and organizational skills
  • Able to provide feedback to participants on abilities to perform training tasks
  • Knowledge of Amtrak Electric Traction policies and procedures
  • Able to maintain all required qualifications and certifications to deliver training according to state and federal requirements
  • Strong organization, administrative, planning, and analytical skills
  • Effective communication skills including presentation delivery, writing and verbal communications
  • Experience with PC-based word-processing, spreadsheet, and presentation applications (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 7-10 years of experience in the Electric Traction Department as a qualified Class A substation employee or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience
  • Must have completed the Electric Traction Training Program
  • Prefer experience working in a collaborative team environment with various levels of senior staff, divisional management, and labor leaders
  • Demonstrated experience and effectiveness in communication skills, including writing, speaking and the presentation of instruction content, data analysis
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills with proven ability to motivate others
  • Familiar with State, Federal or other regulatory agencies rule and regulations
  • Must be highly organized and able to handle a variety of duties, frequently with limited timeframes
  • Thorough knowledge of Amtrak Electric Traction Department rules, practices, and procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local rules and regulations
  • Strong organization, administrative, planning, and analytical skills
  • Experience using PC-based word processing spreadsheets, and presentation software (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Travel up to 50% ·
  • Physical ability to deliver a fast-paced training program in which the lead technical trainer will be required to work in field and classroom settings
  • Classes are designed to accommodate 5 to 24 participants and structured to engage and activate adult learning principles in a variety of settings
  • The practical training environment replicates field scenarios to ensure safety is of the utmost importance
  • The Lead Technical Trainer is responsible to ensure all students adhere to Amtrak’s safety program and utilize P.P.E. as required in field
  • Will work variable hours and days

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

The salary/hourly range is $94,300-$122,256. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee’s assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee’s base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
