We’re searching for a Staff Systems Engineer - Hardware Systems to be an integral part of the Hardware Engineering team that is working to deliver the next generation Aurora Driver Hardware Kit from concept to scale production by:

In this role, you will

  • Define and manage technical blackbox requirements for sensing and drive module assemblies of the Aurora Driver in collaboration with the internal stakeholders, OEM partners (Volvo, PACCAR) and development partners (Continental) 
  • Own requirements closure for all categories of requirements against the sensing and drive modules, by working together with internal stakeholders who are conducting the verification activities (testing, simulation/CFD etc) 
  • Write design documents to evaluate requirements compatibility with architectural solutions, drive engineering reviews on trade offs across the solution space and ultimately unblock implementation teams’ path forward. 
  • Decompose Aurora’s Reliability specification into the Reliability Requirements Library
  • Participate in dFMEA analysis conducted by the Reliability team and contribute to system level effect identification and severity contributions by tying system level dFMEA-MSRs back to the sensing and drive module dFMEA.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace or Mechatronics Engineering
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience
  • 3+ years of industry experience in the systems engineering discipline, specifically:
  • Hands on experience developing technical requirements at various levels of abstraction within a requirements management tool (JAMA, DOORS, etc) 
  • Working in cross-functional teams and leading requirements reviews all the way to approval with implementation teams within HW or SW domains. 
  • Developing and deploying Requirements Management Processes such as review and release, configuration management etc. 
  • 3+ years working in one of the following industries - automotive (Tier 1 or OEM), aerospace or autonomous driving technologies 
  • Been part of a team that’s shipped hardware based product at scale

Desirable Qualifications 

  • Degree in Systems Engineering
  • Experience in generating dFMEAs
  • Systems experience in autonomous driving technology and robotics
  • 3+ years experience working with JAMA for requirements management 
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring and assembly drawings

The base salary range for this position is $181,000.00-$290,000.00 per year. Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.
