Job Purpose

The role of the Product Manager is to develop and implement a detailed business case and product roadmap for developing Fernox water treatment capabilities into Commercial Applications. This analysis will include defining technical requirements, system parameters and possible geographical differences. Once the business plan is implemented, the candidate will will be responsible for the planning, delivery and management of assigned product lines within the Commercial heating and plumbing industry from conceptual stages through product life cycles to meet financial and corporate growth objectives. 

Job Responsibilities

The chemical product range sold within the traditional central heating market is fundamental to the business of Fernox. This role will be responsible for building on the success the Fernox brand in the domestic water treatment industry to develop differentiated offerings into the Commercial Applications segment, including both chemical and engineered products . The Product Manager plays a vital role in ensuring that chemical products, physical devices and services are developed and introduced in a timely manner to meet the needs of this growing segment in strategic markets. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Developing a detailed business plan and product roadmap to support growth of this new commercial applications segment.
  • Identifying new partners and suppliers to assist in the development of a suitable product portfolio for this segment.
  • Analysing macro trends in industry to understand end use segment growth and how this growth is aligned with current and future product offerings.
  • Initiating business cases to drive new product development projects to address specific customer/market needs or holes in the existing product portfolio.
  • Providing financial and technical justification for product selection and definition then engage with R&D to prioritise projects to ensure resources are allocated on highest impact projects.
  • Leading cross-functional teams involving senior Fernox personnel and supplier engineers in the development of new products and improvements.
  • Capturing ‘Voice of Customer’ input from strategic customers, translating to ‘Customer Needs’ and incorporating that input into product development to ensure that the product development pipeline is in line with customer expectations and market trends.
  • Managing product improvements and new product introductions to the Fernox range of water treatment products. Providing an essential link between the customer, technical and help guide through the gated New Product Development process.

Requirements & Qualifications

The candidate should have a degree in marketing or a technical discipline, with a firm understanding of the other. 

The candidate would ideally have practical experience of the Commercial HVAC market and/or have existing relationships with key players and suppliers in Commercial HVAC market, preferably in growth markets such as USA / Continental Europe, with demonstrable knowledge of:

  • System design knowledge of Non-residential commercial hydronic systems 
  • Issues requiring water treatment.
  • Commercial heating, hot water, and closed chiller/cooling systems
  • Renewables / heat pumps and geothermal technologies in this sector 

Project management skills and experience are essential and an ability to delegate and progress work through effective use of resources need to be proven. 

Strong business acumen and analytical skills are a must in this role. Preferably the candidate will have proficiency in the use of Microsoft Project and other management tools and be familiar with ERP reporting tools such as JDE or SAP.

Fluency in English is essential with a broad knowledge of a second main European language preferred.

Challenges

This role is the link and focus between regional sales leaders, manufacturing, supply chain, R&D, and marketing management. It involves significant cross-functional project management with an ability to drive results through others; a broad understanding of manufacturing / general engineering, marketing, and advertising. The candidate must be comfortable with both working alone and on their own initiative, and driving multifunctional project teams in a dynamic, fast-moving environment.

This role involves both domestic / international travel and customer support.
