Principal Database Administrator

What you will be doing: 

We are looking for an experienced MariaDB, MySQL database administrator, who will be responsible for ensuring the performance, availability, and security of MySQL, MariaDB databases. Interested candidate will also be responsible for orchestrating upgrades, backups, and provisioning of database instances. You will also work in tandem with the other teams, preparing documentations and specifications as required.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Provision MariaDB, MySQL instances
  • Ensure performance, security, and availability of databases.
  • Prepare documentations and specifications.
  • Handle common database procedures such as installation, server optimization, monitoring, replication setup, upgrades, backups, recovery, migrations, releases etc.
  • Profile server resource usage, optimize and tweak, as necessary.
  • Great Communication Skills and Collaborate with other team members and stakeholders.
  • On call rotation for critical pages of 24/7 supported application databases.
  • Worked in customer services environments or in Managed Service Providers/Professional Services Providers

Job Specifications:

  • Strong proficiency in MariaDB, MySQL database management
  • Extensive experienced in MariaDB 10.4/10.5/10.6/10.9/10.10/10.11/11.0/11.1 and MySQL 5.6/5.7/8.0 both on-premises and Cloud
  • Strong proficiency in Linux Administration
  • Has supported large enterprise environments with complex datasets.
  • Experience with Linux server performance tuning on MariaDB, MySQL based environments.
  • Worked in Clustered architecture like InnoDB cluster, Galera Cluster, etc.
  • Experience in MariaDB and MySQL Backup, Restores
  • Experience in Advanced Monitoring Solutions
  • Experience performing system and/or storage administration and patching.
  • Experienced in Installation, Configuration and Administration of MariaDB and MySQL on Linux
  • Understanding of MariaDB, MySQL’s underlying storage engines, such as InnoDB and MyISAM
  • Experienced in Advanced HA Replication solutions with MariaDB, MySQL
  • Experience in Performance tuning in opensource databases
  • Database Security best practice implementations
  • Experience in data modeling, schema design and optimization
  • Experience in Heterogenous migrations to MariaDB/MySQL
  • Knowledge of de-facto standards and best practices in MariaDB, MySQL
  • Proficient in writing and optimizing SQL statements.
  • Ability to plan resource requirements from high level specifications.
  • Familiarity with other SQL/NoSQL databases such as MongoDB
  • Knowledge of limitations in MySQL, MariaDB and their workarounds in contrast to other popular relational databases
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience as MariaDB, MySQL DBA on Linux OS Production environment
  • Proficient understanding of code language Python, Perl, and Bash

  • Percona xtrabackup, Percona toolkit
  • MongoDB 3.4, 3.6, 4.0, 7.0
  • MariaDB, MySQL Data at rest encryption
  • MariaDB, MySQL encrypted connection setup
  • MongoDB upgrades, replication setup, data encryption
  • MariaDB, MySQL, MongoDB, Percona MariaDB/MySQL and GCP Certifications
