We are Microchip’s Communications Business Unit (CBU), a premier supplier for 100Gbps+ networking and System on Chip (SoC) devices. We develop next-generation technologies that are revolutionizing communications and the Internet. Our award-winning products are used by major technology companies to enable high performance spaceflight computing and high-bandwidth, cloud-based applications such as streaming services, social media platforms and video conferencing. We make it happen.

Our Systems Engineering group is looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our team as we validate leading-edge semiconductor devices. We invent systems and tests to ensure Microchip’s brand-new products operate correctly in their intended applications. We require dynamic, versatile engineers who want to participate in design, bring up, and test of complete systems (boards, ICs, firmware, and software). You will work closely with leading edge technologies such as Ethernet, PCI Express, FPGAs, fiber optics, 112Gbps SERDES, and RISC-V embedded processors. You will experience limitless learning and growth opportunities. Your work will add real value to Microchip’s products.

As a member of our team, you must be highly motivated to learn, have first-class debugging and problem-solving skills, be motivated to develop sophisticated hardware and software platforms, and be able to quickly master the devices and systems that Microchip develops.

What we do:

  • Design high-speed boards (up to 112 Gbps) using Microchip and third-party ICs, digital and analog circuits, and large programmable devices.
  • Design highly integrated, sophisticated FPGAs using VHDL/SystemVerilog.
  • Integrate complex test platforms containing multiple CPUs, high speed backplanes, traffic generation devices/testers, software, and our boards.
  • Plan and execute device feature tests, including results analysis, bug detection, and extensive root-cause analysis using Python and C/C++.
  • Work with leading edge test equipment such as 800GE Ethernet testers, oscilloscopes, phase noise analyzers, network analyzers, and microprocessor trace probes.
  • Integrate software SDK to control our hardware systems.
  • Create application-level system configuration scripts to control the device, the test platform, and the test equipment using Python.
  • Create embedded processor test applications to benchmark and stress multi-core SOCs using C/C++
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex problems in embedded multi-core SOCs.
  • Work closely with and support members of the Product Design, Verification, Software, Software Test, Applications, Marketing, and Product Engineering teams.
  • Add value to our devices by finding issues and developing and testing solutions.

Requirements/Qualifications:

Required Skill Set

  • You have a systematic approach to problem-solving within a team and on your own. When something isn’t working properly, it’s important to you to figure out why.
  • Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering.
  • You want to be part of an exciting, dynamic, and challenging work environment, requiring rapid and constant learning and skills development. 
  • You have a systematic approach to problem-solving within a team and on your own. When something isn’t working properly, it’s important to you to figure out why.

Preferred Skill Set

  • Excellent analytical, communication, and documentation skills.
  • The more experience with these, the better:
  • Designing electronic hardware and systems.
  • FPGAs and HDL languages such as VHDL/ System Verilog design.
  • Python and/or other scripting languages like TCL, Perl.
  • C driver API development.
  • Lab test equipment.
  • Linux operating systems.
  • Related COOP experiences.

Benefits of working at Microchip

The annual base salary range for this position, which could be performed in British Columbia, is $76,000 - $114,000.*
