Development Associate, Midwest and Southwest - Office of Advancement - Georgetown University

Job Overview

The Development Associate, Midwest and Southwest (DA) plays a key role within the Midwest and Southwest Development team and at the Office of Advancement as a self-starter. They work closely with frontline development officers through a partnership designed to grow talent and build a pipeline for future frontline development officers who are interested in making their careers at Georgetown. Through this partnership, the DA ensures the relevant frontline fundraisers get the high-level administrative and strategic support they need to properly maintain an outward focus on building relationships and closing gifts.

They are responsible for portfolio review, maintenance, and strategy; for identification and research of donors to the university; and for provision of full-spectrum support to development officers, including but not limited to managing travel, expenses, meeting preparation, and regional event logistics. They also serve in a critical support and office management role which is structured to grow the talent of the Development Associate towards a career in the Office of Advancement over time.

The Development Associate provides accurate, timely, and comprehensive analysis and information about prospective donors from the Midwest and Southwest region; and engage in the identification and reporting of new prospective donors for placement in fundraiser portfolios, using weekly gift reports and other data pulled from Georgetown University’s Donor Management platform called GU360 (Salesforce for Georgetown).

Additionally, they provide general development support for a small number of major gift officers, including assisting with budgets, travel, staff solicitation visits, weekly gift reports, and donor information; entering prospect strategies in donor profiles; and tracking the Midwest and Southwest team’s campaign pipeline. They are also responsible for the gift process: entering and tracking asks, proposals, facilitating Gift Agreements/Statements of Intent and gift transmittal forms.

This DA has a special role supporting the Georgetown Scholars Program, Georgetown’s wrap-around support for low-income, first-generation college students - they support the program’s fundraising, as well as the management of the volunteer board.

As well, they support advancement events for the Midwest and Southwest Development team, in responsibilities such as coordinating with internal colleagues, drafting and sending invitations, staffing events and managing RSVPs, and writing briefings and attendee follow up.

Due to the diversity of their workload, the Development Associate necessarily applies their communication skills, teamwork, flexibility, efficiency, attention to detail, external relations focus, and their ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines for a wide variety of assignments - as well as their tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality in dealing with members of the University community and the University's donors.

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Development, Midwest and Southwest, the Development Associate works closely with and supports two development officers, and interacts with other divisions of the Office of Advancement and the University to ensure timely, open and accurate communications in order to facilitate the team’s development activities.

Through their contributions, the DA significantly impact the success of the fundraising activities of the Office of Advancement. They interact with donors, prospective donors, and other alumni who will be positively affected by interacting with a courteous and professional member of the Advancement team.

As well, they interact with most of their Advancement colleagues, including Campaign Operations, Stewardship, Donor Relations, Marketing and Communications, Prospect Research, Alumni Relations, and Annual Fund - to list just a few teams.

This position has been designated as Hybrid. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Such review may necessitate a change to a position’s mode of work designation. Complete details about Georgetown University’s mode of work designations for staff and AAP positions can be found on the Department of Human Resources website: https://hr.georgetown.edu/mode-of-work-designation.
