I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.
Reporting to the Design Director, will design editorial print pages for front and back of book sections stories for Better Homes & Gardens and Better Homes & Gardens Special Interest Publications. Specifically Home Design, Garden and Food content cores., (and some features). Able to function as one’s own production person, producing clean, ready to publish layouts. Able to articulate and pitch design ideas including photography and illustration approaches for stories. Some assigning of illustration possible.

20 Strong design, typographical sensibilities and problem solving abilities.
25 Ability to work pro-actively with editors, photo team and production staff as well as being a self-starter in getting projects off the ground and taking initial concepts forward to highly polished pages on deadline.
25 Attention to detail. Able to juggle multiple tasks under tight deadlines. Able to produce tight, neat layouts is a must. Master of style sheets and templates.
20 Able to take direction, work well both independently and collaboratively, with strong communication skills.
10 Service: Executes all additional duties as requested by Creative Director.
III. Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered.
Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or related field or equivalent training and/or experience.
Minimum 2 years national magazine design experience preferred.
Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Thorough knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and K4 or Woodwing content management systems, Word and Excel
Ability to adhere to art team guidelines and departmental processes
Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
Lover of magazines and versed in current magazine design trends.
