AWM Legal Counsel - JPMorgan Asset & Wealth Management Data Legal Team

The AWM Data Legal Team is seeking an attorney to assist with providing legal advice and support with respect to data sharing and use by the Asset & Wealth Management (AWM) business. The successful candidate will be well-organized, attentive to detail, exercise sound decision-making, and proactive and resourceful in tackling novel issues and finding solutions to problems. The role will also work with AWM business teams on data intensive initiatives using artificial intelligence and data analytics such as Generative AI, large language models, and other emerging technology initiatives. In addition, the position requires a high level of energy and the ability to thrive in a high-paced, deadline-driven organization, where timely execution of high-quality work product is expected.

The firm is a leader in investment banking, financial services for consumers, small business and commercial banking, financial transaction processing, and asset management. The Legal Department of JPMC is responsible for providing legal services to the firm and is organized by practice groups that generally conform to JPMC’s lines of business, including Asset & Wealth Management.

Job Responsibilities

  • Advise on the identification, assessment, and control of legal, regulatory, and privacy risks for new data use cases, including those presented to the AWM Data Use Council.
  • Review data use terms in third party agreements and counsel AWM businesses on the sharing and use of third party data for business initiatives.
  • Assist with the sourcing, sharing, and use of third party website data, including reviewing and advising on terms of use for the websites.
  • Assess and advise AWM businesses on the due diligence of third party data vendors and data sources being onboarded by the business.
  • Work with Legal, Compliance, and Controls partners to develop standards and guidelines for data use cases, such as artificial intelligence or alternative data use.
  • Draft and negotiate data use sections of legal agreements with third parties to address standard secondary data use restrictions for JPMC data.
  • Assist on projects assessing legal and regulatory obligations with respect to the sharing and use of data within the firm, Assist with due diligence questionnaire updates, Assist with ad hoc projects on data use and privacy matters.

Qualifications:

  • Fluent in spoken and written English, with excellent English oral communication skills. Ability to attend business meetings and provide legal advice to clients in English.
  • Minimum of 3-6 years of professional experience in privacy, intellectual property, and/or financial laws and regulations, gained within a leading local law firm or within the legal department of a financial institution.
  • Excellent legal research and writing skills. Ability to research a novel legal issue and provide counsel on the current state of law.
  • A team player who can collaborate and communicate effectively with attorneys and other business and compliance professionals.
  • Self-starter who is able to work independently, take ownership of responsibilities and projects, identify problems and propose solutions, and is results-oriented and flexible.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize work in a fast-paced, complex business environment and maintain communication with attorneys regarding project status and estimated completion timelines. 
  • Law degree and membership in jurisdictional organization. Attorney candidates must be in compliance with all relevant licensing requirements including the requirements of the jurisdiction where the role will be located prior to commencement of employment.
