Your responsibilities

As a Platform Security Specialist, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the security and integrity of our data platform. In your role, you will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the security posture of our Data Platform, which is built on the Azure stack and leverages Databricks for data processing and analytics. Your expertise in platform security and data protection will be pivotal in enabling the successful and secure delivery of data-driven solutions.

As part of the technical Core Platform team, you demonstrate values of a tech-savvy, pragmatic, and on collaboration focused colleague. You will collaborate closely with Security team and other ICT colleagues, developers of the Full Stack development teams and their respective stakeholders if necessary. Your primary goal is to ensure a cohesive approach to securing the data platform and the development and deployment of data products.

As Platform Security Specialist, you focus on:

  • Platform Security: Design, implement and maintain sustainable security architecture for the data platform to safeguard (sensitive) data, prevent unauthorized access, and ensure compliance with relevant data privacy regulations.
  • Data Product Security: Collaboration with developers, the security department and other stakeholders to assess security requirements, provide security guidance, and perform security reviews to identify and mitigate potential risks in data products.
  • Threat Detection & Incident Response: As Subject Matter Expert (SME) you are involved in threat detection in close collaboration with the Security Operations Center (SOC). You focus on incident response around the data platform.
  • Identity & Access Management: Responsible for implementing secure authentication and authorisation policies based on different data classifications within the data platform closely collaborating with Security team.
  • Security Automation: Automate security checks in the development process, collaborate with developers, and implement security in the CI/CD pipelines.
  • Vulnerability Management: Organize vulnerability assessments on the data platform to ensure compliancy with security and privacy regulations. Follow-up on findings from assessments.
  • Security Governance: Responsible for implementation of existing policies into data platform and enforce these in close alignment with Security team
  • Compliance & Audit: Ensure compliance with relevant data security and privacy regulations, and support internal and external audits as needed.
  • Security Awareness & Training: Support in conducting security trainings for development teams, and stakeholders, fostering a security-conscious culture and promoting secure coding practices.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with full stack development teams to assess security risks and vulnerabilities in the platform architecture, applications, and infrastructure, and develop strategies to address them effectively.
  • Innovation: Stay up-to-date with the latest security technologies, trends, and threats, and recommend improvements to security frameworks and practices to enhance platform resilience. Having affinity with AI solutions is a plus.

Your department

The Central Data & Analytics department is tasked with extending, operating and further maturing the data platform of Vanderlande. We provide Data & Analytics related products and services to Vanderlande, primarily catering to internal customers, but supporting our digital service portfolio. Following a hub & spoke model, we establish centralized standards that are then adopted and implemented by decentralized teams within the business.

At the heart of our efforts lies the Data Platform, the core product we are diligently enhancing. This Azure cloud enabled platform based on the Data Mesh principle empowers us to deliver valuable Data Products by transforming, processing, combining, and enriching data from various source systems, ultimately creating a reliable source of truth for our customers. To enable efficient data analysis and visualization, we actively govern, and maintain the Vanderlande Qlik Servers and Power BI Premium capacity. In addition, we provide templates, establish a clear workflow, and foster a community of experts.

Our work centers around our Federated Governance model, with the Central Data & Analytics Organization as the hub serving the spokes. Our scope encompasses Data Governance, Platform Operations, Core Platform Development, and Full stack Development. The technologies we use span across the Azure stack and Databricks ecosystem, ensuring seamless integration and optimal utilization of resources. By utilizing advanced analytics techniques and the latest technology, our focus on innovation empowers us to continuously improve and innovate the Data Platform.

Operating as a scaled Agile organization, we embrace the SAFe Agile framework and work collaboratively across different teams, all united by a common backlog and shared roadmap. This approach allows us to be highly adaptable, continuously adjusting to the evolving strategic needs of stakeholders within Vanderlande.

Your qualifications and skills

If you’re an experienced, enthusiastic and versatile Platform Security Specialist, you will bring:

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of prior experience working as an Platform Security Specialist or in a similar role.
  • Strong expertise in securing cloud-based data platforms, with specific experience in the Azure stack and Databricks.
  • Knowledge of security frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001) and data privacy regulations (e.g. GDPR).
  • Understanding of data governance, data access controls, and data classification frameworks.
  • Industry certifications such as CSSP or CSSLP, Azure specific Security certifications or equivalent are a plus.
  • Familiarity with programming languages Python, PySpark, SQL, or R for data retrieval and manipulation is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively convey complex technical concepts in a clear and understandable manner to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Enthusiastic, proactive, driven, and actively seeking opportunities for personal development and growth.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and commitment to staying updated with the latest trends, tools, and best practices in the data & analytics field.
