UVAFinance seeks applicants for multiple positions across its departments, including Financial Reporting and Accounting, Payroll, Financial Planning and Analysis, and Treasury. Positions are available at the Financial Analyst, Senior Financial Analyst, and Finance Manager levels. These key roles will engage in both day-to-day financial operations as well as strategic projects and will work with members of their teams and colleagues across UVAFinance and the University to support effective, compliant, and strategic fiscal management for the University of Virginia.

These positions require incumbents to be both independent and proactive. These positions are currently eligible for telework, but availability in Charlottesville is preferred.

Description for Financial Analyst:

Financial Analysts help construct a holistic understanding of financial activity at the University. They may focus on the performance of specific schools or units, or of specific functions, such as budgeting, accounting, auditing, planning, taxes, payroll, and treasury. They conduct assigned financial studies, collecting, analyzing, and presenting financial information. They assist in preparing recommendations for policies, procedures, controls, or actions. They may interpret and apply financial policies and accounting theory. They prepare standard and special studies, reports, analyses. They make recommendations in areas such as governmental requirements, statistical reports, and business forecasts. Work is conducted independently.

Qualifications for Financial Analyst:

Education:

  • High school diploma, bachelor’s degree preferred

Experience:

  • At least one year of relevant experience is required.
  • Experience with navigating competing priorities in a high-visibility office is preferred.
  • Experience working with diverse stakeholders is preferred.
  • Proven critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation and reporting skills are required.
  • Ability to build relationships and develop internal and external partnerships is required.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) is required.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement processes are preferred.
  • Knowledge of UVA systems, including Workday, Adaptive, and/or UBI (Qlik) is a plus.

Description for Senior Financial Analyst:

Senior Financial Analysts develop, interpret, and implement highly complex financial and accounting concepts and techniques for financial planning and control. They direct development and implementation of new concepts and techniques for financial information analysis. Senior analysts coordinate with all levels of management within and outside the University to gather, analyze, summarize, and prepare recommendations regarding financial plans, future requirements, operating forecasts, and similar complex financial matters. They act as consultants to management on financial policies, procedures, and application. Senior Financial Analysts are distinguished by experience and depth of knowledge. They may provide functional and technical direction to other financial staff members.

Qualifications for Senior Financial Analyst:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree

Experience:

  • At least five years of relevant experience is required. Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience in leadership of budget, treasury, financial operations, and/or financial reporting, especially in a higher education setting is required.
  • Proven experience with leading competing priorities in a high-visibility office.
  • Proven experience working with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation and reporting skills are required.
  • Ability to build relationships and develop internal and external partnerships is required.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) is required.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement processes are preferred.
  • Knowledge of UVA systems, including Workday, Adaptive, and UBI (Qlik) is a plus.
  • CMA, CFA, CTP, CPA, or other relevant certifications are a plus.

Description for Finance Manager:

Finance Managers oversee a team of finance professionals or a financial program. Finance Managers may focus on one or more specialty areas in finance, including accounting, budget, payroll, financial aid, financial analysis, purchasing, or treasury. Finance Managers serve as finance experts, program leaders, or team heads. Their mastery of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), institutional knowledge, and expertise, allows them to work independently, providing the management oversight and direction for their organizations to operate efficiently and effectively, adhering to established compliance guidelines, institutional standards, organizational timelines, and fulfilling leadership goals.

Qualifications for Finance Manager:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree

Experience:

  • At least seven years of experience in a financial discipline, with supervisory experience. 11 years of relevant/finance experience accepted in lieu of degree.
  • Experience in leadership of budget, financial operations, and/or financial reporting, especially in a higher education setting is required.
  • Proven experience with leading competing priorities in a high-visibility office.
  • Proven experience working with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven critical thinking and problem-solving abilities are required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation and reporting skills are required.
  • Ability to build relationships and develop internal and external partnerships is required.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) is required.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement processes are preferred.
  • Knowledge of UVA systems, including Workday, Adaptive, and UBI (Qlik) is a plus.
  • CMA, CFA, CTP, CPA, or other relevant certifications are a plus.

Physical Demands: This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop/laptop computers.

Anticipated Hiring Range: Commensurate with qualifications and eligible for UVA Benefits.
